Rangers one of 12 teams to inquire about Forsberg

Quote:
Multiple NHL sources confirmed the Rangers are among nearly a dozen teams that have contacted the Philadelphia Flyers about the availability of all-world center Peter Forsberg
http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/st...p-413038c.html

It looks like NY Daily News sports editor Leon Carter has taken the restraints off John Dellapina.Just a few days after Larry Brooks and the Post scooped everyone on the Martin Straka story.Dubi of BB talked about how the Rangers beat writers are reticent to report a rumor even if it's coming from a source. This story just says the Rangers have contacted the Flyers. The Rangers have contacted every team in the NHL.Where is the news flash?

The Rangers passed on a chance to sign Forsberg two summers ago, when there was talk he and boyhood pal Markus Naslund wanted to come to New York as a package.
I never knew this...i though Forsberg just dislike New York.
Maybe Nylander or Henke should give some calls to Foppa
For the right price, bring him.

While I've always liked Forsberg as a player, the price of acquiring him scares, since I'm not who the Rangers would be willing to give up for him. And, considering his often injured state, he won't be worth the gamble it costs to bring him in.

He is oft injured and while an excellent player, his health always will be an issue. The price I would pay would be a couple of middle type prospects or one middle B level and a 3rd round pick or A.Hall and a pick. I would not get into any bidding war. Any team foolish enough to spend big on a risky player like Forsberg deserves to be taken to the cleaners.

If healthy, it is a whole other story. He would make a huge impact on our squad. We would have two equally strong forward line, Jagr, Nylander, Straka and then Forsberg, Shannahan and Prucha. Ideally you would trade for him on condition of health, ability to play X number of games the rest of the season & playoffs. If Philly would agree I would offer up Hall and a player to be named later, say Immonen. But that would mean that he played almost all of the remaining games and we went deep into the playoffs. I would even put the condition on our ability to resign him.

Forsberg on the NYR would solve a LOT of problems. His susceptibility to injury at this point though, along with his expiring contract, make it important for the team to not offer too much.

Forsberg have stated several times that he loves playing at the Garden. It would be a dream come true for the Average Forsberg fan. Possibly the two greatest euro players of the last decade on the same team, for a playoff run, i would love to see that. Hope he fixes his damn feets.

Straka - Forsberg - Jagr and Prucha - Nylander - Shanahan... now that would make anyone cream their pants.

I wonder what we would have to give though, probably too much.

You can wipe Prucha off there. He will most likely be going to Philly to acquire Forsberg. Call him the "Kim Johnsson" of this deal.

Hopefully not. I wouldn't be against moving Forsberg to New York, but I certainly wouldn't want Prucha to be the centerpiece of the return.

Forget about the Rangers and Prucha. From an overall league standpoint, how much do you expect to receive for a 34 year old cripple?Forsberg can't play 5 games in a row w/out his foot bothering him,his groin bothering him or another player giving him another concussion. He barely made it out of last Saturday's game against Pittsburgh in one piece

no no no no no He already has said he would more than likely resign with the Flyers at the end of the season. This trade will be pointless. The Rangers trade for him, he plays 3 games and then gets hurt and thats it. I wouldn't give up anything for him in the condition that he is in now.

He was the best player on the ice last Saturday against Pittsburgh.

He'll command more than Doug Weight did last year (1st rounder plus).

I can see him getting a first rounder and something else in a deal but hopefully it is not from the Rangers. The team dealing for Forsberg should be smart and ask for a conditional 2nd rd pick or something like that if he re-signs with Philly, as he intends to do whether or not he is dealt it seems.

You are wrong about this, thusfar the Islanders have been going after him and the flyers originally started with 1st rounder plus top prospect plus B level prospect and it was quickly rejected by MANY teams. The only way that the Flyers would get a 1st rounder would be conditional. Say TEAM A wins the CUP or Foresberg plays X percentage of the TEAM A's remaining games + playoffs.

or if he resigns with the team he is traded to and doesn't run back to Philly after the season is over.

First of all he wouldn't accept a trade to the Islanders.

The closer it gets to the deadline the less salary a tem has to pay.

Assuming Forsberg is healthy between now and the trade deadline, if a GM can't get more than a #1 + for Forsberg he doesn't deserve to have a job.

He's likely the only player available that can make a significant difference.

One word: NO

If sather trades our prospects for a guy who will play 2 games with us then get injured for the rest of the season then he really is an idiot. And come the physical playoffs Forsberg will be out in a period.
