KPD -- Absolutely true story!!!!!!!

To my fellow LF'ers:

As many of you know, I hopped on the Good Ship Rip Job here late in the summer of '03 ( in part, just to fend off some of the kpd ripping!), at which time there was a steady stream of POUTINE references.
Needless to say, I was way behind the POUTINE curve, and never really caught on. Poor me, POUTINE-challenged, to say the least. Poor, poor POUTINE, moi. Still don't know the joke (and don't know if I WANT to know the joke).
Anywhooooo.....
So here I am in Montreal on Monday, prior to meeting with Girard, and I grab the daily Montreal Gazette (one of my fav reads).
And now here's the punch line (I swear to the Gallery Gods!).
The two-line headline, across the top of Page 1, tucked right under the ``Gazette'' masthead (real newspaper talk):

Killer poutine: Cree
diabetes rate soaring

Can you imagine?!? Page 1 for poutine?! With accompanying huge pictures of young, overweight Cree kids wolfing down the cheesy, greasy fries....slurp!
I mean, when's it going to stop, huh? Poutine. Bad for you. Probably even worse if you salt it, don't you think?
Anway, that's it from here on the poutine patrol.
Until next time, bon appetit. kpd/hoh

The proof is in the POUTINE!
The closest I've actually come to poutine is some killer fries & Gravy at Nectar's in Burlington, VT. But toss is those cheesy curds and methinks there's a "killer" snack to be had. Hats off to ya KPD, you've partaken in the Poutine Chronicles...............one healthy helping coming your way!

If you were to venture into Quebec more (i.e. the 'rural' parts) you'd realize that the "Chip stand" is an icon. Every little town has two or three (minimum) of these grease-laden, heart-attack causing monstrosities nestled in beside the main strip. And hey, everyone has their favourite (including me, one off of highway 148 in Plaisance).

It's not that Cree are shooting themselves in the foot, it's just a part of the culture, and unfortunately, their systems are used to the grease that descendents of Europeans are.

Jj

JJ should put a Poutine stand outside of the vistors lockerroom, I can see it now:

Roenick: "Aw man, this stuff is great...Gagne! Get your but out here, you'd love this stuff. Call my agent! Trade me to the Habs!!!"

Gagne: "No thanks, I think Hackett ate too much of that already."

Whenever you feel the need to know as much as you can about this concoction:

http://www.avivalasvegas.com/Pages/poutinetalk6.htm

It's "everything poutine" web site. I admit...I've had it before after a few belts. When you're hungry and somewhat inebriated, it's pretty darned good!

Make sure you drink plenty of red wine to clean the plaque from your arteries afterwards.
