I'd trade G for that deal that Brooks states, but I think that's also an absolute fantasy. No team on earth would do that.

I think they should keep Cally unless his demands are absolutely non-starters. However, if he wants something crazy, I'd be okay with trading him for that return also. However, there's also no chance that anybody would give that for him.

I'd trade either guy depending on the return. But, the return that Brooks thinks is there sounds like fantasy to me.

The only thing we know for sure is that if Brooks and Sather are both on the same side it is the wrong side.

If Paul Gaustad can fetch a #1 and Martin Erat can bring back F. Forsberg, maybe Brooksie isn't that off the mark.

Brooks reads these boards. He's simply echoing what we've been saying for a while.

Dealing just about everybody is the best for the Rangers right about now.

If it is a sign and trade, then it is possible.

Girardi and Cally both had pretty good games tonight. At least they're working on increasing their trade value.

They need to start dropping further out of the playoff race or there will be no selling as usual.

I hope I am wrong, please be wrong.

Callahan for Murphy, Domi and 1st.

Girardi for Lindholm, Kerdiles, and 1st.

Do it!

Girardi must be reading the Post, the last two games have probably been two of his best all season.

Oh good, I won't have to read proposal like
God awful Franson + pick for Girardi because he is a pending UFA.
At least Brooks has the value about right.

I'd pull the trigger on both if that's the value and I love Girardi. I'd live with the growing pains of grooming a kid to take over his spot if he is coming back in either trade.

If the Rangers are not going to re-sign Girardi, they have to trade him. The team isn't a Cup contender. The team is in no position to allow the player to walk for nothing in July. The price isn't going down. The Rangers know where the cap is being set for next season. A friend of mine told me last night that Sather will get a lot for Girardi looking at the list of available D as possible rentals. Look at the same list. Girardi will name his price as a group III. Out of a playoff spot. In a playoff spot. It doesn't matter. Are the Rangers re-signing Girardi? NO. Trade him. YES. Sign him already. Its very simple. Its January 7 and the player is not signed.

Same thing with Callahan.

Messier was without a contract well into the 1996 season. Huge news back then. Nobody understood why, and some people were nervous because his 1995 was so-so. Messier didnt report to training camp and the Rangers threatened him.

Can you imagine? Mark friggin Messier without a contract and was holding out just one year after winning the Cup. He got a one-year extension around Thanksgiving IIRC. Had a great season.

RB's right. Do something. Callahan and Girardi are not Mark Messier. Under 40 games left.
The Rangers have aproached Girardi and he's being staunch. The Rangers havent talked much with Callahan.

Both are not signing extensions in-season.Callahan admitted he's not signing an extension this season:

Quote:
“It’s something that will take care of itself,” Callahan said when asked if he is bothered by the lack of progress toward an extension. “I’ll play this year and see what happens after that.”
http://nypost.com/2013/12/02/absolut...ontract-talks/

SNY did as poll on Girardi -- 1900 votes. 56 pct say trade / 44 pct say extend. People are saying Girardi will get 6 million. A bidding war will happen and some team will go beyond that.

Hometown discounts are rare nowadays. The Unions hate them. Callahan will want Pavelski money. Girardi will want 6 million and he'll get it because the crop is weak and people may consider him a No. 1

Like Sather, you're looking at the move in a vacuum. The Nash was a good trade—until they realized that they didn't have the depth or resources in-house to replace the guys they dealt and the role's they played.
Or more importantly they didn't have any other top line talents on the team. They thought they had 3 others with Stepan, Rich and Gabs. They expected Ck to play like he has this year.

The vaccuum at the top was and has been much more noticeable than the bottom. I would pay Girardi 4 years at 7 mil. 4 years isn't a big deal and there is NO ONE to replace him at the top. Package Callahan, girardi, MDZ and Staal for Malkin. 3 guys who haven't played all year and will be gone + Staal who is going to carolina anyway. jk of course but seriously that'd be a damn great trade imo

I wouldn't be interested in that because I really don't have faith in either Fast or Lindberg to be contributing NHL players.

but that's just me.

If those were the prospects being offered, I'd demand the pick be a 1st.

Well hopefully with this line of thinking Sather will at the very least not make another asinine trade this year like a Ryan Clowe 12 game rental for second, third and fifth round draft picks. Yet another mistake by our inept GM.

Thinking about it, this should be what the Rangers are looking for in return for Callahan and Girardi. Both are two of the best players that could be available at the deadline and during the summer. Either could help push a team over the top to win the cup.

It would give the Rangers two top four defensemen that could be ready next season, two top six potential forwards that are not too far off from being ready, and two first round picks to go a long with their own.

Solid way to retool and still have a solid core to build around. Kreider, McD, Lindholm, Domi, Hagelin, Staal, Miller and McI.

Not to mention if they are able to package those picks together to get into the top 5 in this draft as well as who ever they get in return for MDZ and players like Boyle if they are moved.

The Rangers were finding success and finally had an identity and a culture of accountability. And were going in the right direction.

Messier had a clause built into his contract that allowed him to re-negotiate his deal should the Rangers win a cup. They did and he wanted a better deal.

He could have negotiated that while still playing, but he threatened to hold out after the cup. He got his 3 year 18 million dollar deal after the 93-94 cup season. The only saving grace for the Rangers back then was that the 94-95 season started late due to a lockout.

He became a UFA during the summer of 97 and bolted.

There was no one year extension.

Then you'll be incredibly disappointed. Those are both ridiculous overpayments that would never happen.

Could not agree more. Throw in others like Stralman and do what needs to be done.

I think the 1st deal may have some legs to it.

The 2nd one? You're not getting Lindholm for Girardi alone, not to mention that you want the Ducks to add Kerdiles AND a 1st?

Lindholm is playing just 3 less minutes a game than Girardi, has more points and is a +22 (leads the Ducks D in that catagory).

now, you may point out that he's on a better team and I would argue that he's as much a reason for their success as any other player not named Getzlaf and Perry.

No way in hell do you get Lindholm for Girardi without major adds from the Rangers side.
