Never know. Goalies come out of no where all the time. He's a big guy at least. I haven't been watching the games but I would imagine some of his success can be attributed to Murray's system. With our defense constructed the way it is, I would say he would definitely be challenged, but we did go into last year with Leighton as the backup. I wonder if Mason gets hurt, do they call him up and give him a shot or do they roll with Emery and call up Danis to be the backup.

Danis is currently hurt so at the moment would be Heeter. While the system has helped Heeter has made some REALLY good saves the few games I saw. Includes a few breakaways and amazing glove saves. Has some rebound trouble but fairly agile and position sound. Dont know if he would make the NHL ever but he is currently contributing for the Phantoms.

I thought Danis was hurt, wasn't sure. I meant more as a hypothetical later in the season. Has he done enough to pass Danis on the org's depth chart? It's hard to imagine him doing much better.

I'm definitely more interested in seeing some evaluations of how Goulbourne has progressed as an actual hockey player. He's one of the better pound for pound fighters, but we need another fighter with limited hockey abilities like I need a punch to the face.

I see Tyrell every game and he continues to be impressive in his progress in all areas. He is playing basically #1 line with Myles Bell and Tyson Baillie, is on the 1st PK and stands up for his team. He laid on beating on 20 yr old tough guy, ******** Tim Traber last night. I know you Flyer fans werent happy with the pick and I agree 3rd round may have been too high but he has improved all 3 yrs in the league and to play the role he does on the #1 team in the CHL should tell you what the coaches think of him. He is 18 yrs old and i have never seen so many opposing players look at their skates whenever they are near him, its crazy the respect this guy has.

How is his offense progressing? I see he has 20 points in 35 after having only 27 all last year. Is this a result of him getting more time with better players or has he shown improvement scoring? Great to hear he's on the #1 pk line, so he doesn't just bring fists to the table.

I thought he was already draft eligible a year before we drafted him? So he'd be at least 19 if not 20. Maybe I'm wrong.

Heeter named AHL player of the week. Went 3-0 stopping 86 of 87 shots good for a 0.33 gaa and a sv% of .989.

Ironic considering we have almost 17M in free cap space before Pronger goes on the LTIR.

Flyers will have at most 5-6m to sign a FA if they give reasonable raises to Mason, Schenn, Raffl and Gus. Having to have Prongers 4.94m hit to start the season is a big disadvantage.

Just giving reasonable raises to the RFAs and Downie lowers the available cap room to sign free agents to just over $3 million. To double that room and have enough to sign an impact free agent they would need to let Downie go and replace him with a sub-$1 million guy.

The way goulbourne pulls the guy up after he fell initially in the first fight was pretty impressive. Still wished we picked someone else there, though.

We may not need Downie, especially if Laughton makes the club, which I could see him do. I could even see Morin maybe making the club as well.

Replacing Downie with Laughton would be cost effective and he will definitely be on the team next year.

But the bottom line is there's only room for one quality free agent signing unless they trade someone like Hartnell or Grossman.

I don't think Morin will be ready and we shouldn't rush him.

What about this
Don't mind the pairings/lines

Move Hartnell for picks, sign Nikitin as a UFA. Haven't seen too much of Nikitin but from what I've read he's pretty solid. Not sure on the cap figure for him either.

No reason to have Rinaldo on this team over Hall. And damn that defense is still expensive.

As exciting as Goulborne may be with his fighting skills. We all know he'll get the same borderline/marginal calls from the zebras like Rinaldo.

But it's ok i guess because it's part of the game.

To my knowledge, Goulbourne doesn't get a lot of minors at least not last year. I think the bulk of his penalties are from fighting. Rinaldo on the other hand was a lightening rod for officials during his junior days and it carried over to the AHL and then to the NHL. In a lot of ways Goulbourne, at least by what I read, is exactly what the Flyers want out of Rinaldo; sound defensively, kills penalties well, doesn't hurt the team by taking penalties and can throw down when needed.

That's a lot of money for a pretty mediocre roster. I'd assume that Laughton will be centring the 4th line, so that bumps down Rosehill. I don't know if $3.5 mil will get it done for Mason, though and Heeter as back-up is iffy. And Coburn / Schenn as top pair? Yikes.

I know you're assembling to show the cap factor.

Well, thanks.

These are points, which I wasn't aware of.

If so, and he has a role (fighting not included), it's encouraging.
