Wings are definitely interested in something from NYR.
Got this info in early December but then that info has been quiet
My source inside DRW would not tell me what, but I have a feeling they want a defenseman (wow - what a surprise). Most likely Stralman. Plus Rick Nash if the price is not ridiculous.
Seriously

Wait until the deadline to trade G or Callahan. If extension talks go no where, you have to trade them both. You have to maximize return for an asset you're about to lose. Economics 101. Both would get great returns at the deadline that can be helpful in retooling this team moving forward, although losing both is less than ideal.

Any deal with a team like Anaheim probably involves a defensemen coming back our way. They have a lot of "okay" defenders, some who are playing well over their heads as of late but I fully expect to come back to earth. Sbisa or Souray would probably be sent back to the Rangers in a deal. Sbisa can play 18 minutes a game. Reasonable contract for one more year. He's a lefty, but he can play the right side of the ice. Good skater. Rangers want mobile defenders on the blue line.

Sbisa is not a good defender. Him playing 15-20min a night here could get very ugly. Talking in his own zone. Not impressed.

Reading the Ducks board they are completely balking at the idea of 2 A prospects and a pick. Balking at including Etem (who personally I don't even like). But then again deals aren't made on HF. If the Rangers decide to move Girardi there will be no shortage of suitors. Which to me screams, why are they dumping him...but we've had that debate enough.

I like Kerdilles, Palmieri, pick from the Ducks. Trade DZ for a RD.

Move Callahan before the Olympic break. That guy will break more bones blocking a shot in a game against the Finns or Sweden. The Rangers retain some money.

I'd be on board with that, although I proposed Bryan Allen in the return in the past. More similar player and salary to Girardi, although Sbisa would fit this team better. Due to age and contract, we'd get a smaller additional package back if we got Sbisa instead of Allen.

Which would you guys rather have?
Door #1 is Sbisa and Anaheim's 1st for Girardi
Or Door #2 is Allen, Kerdiles, and Anaheim 1st for Girardi.

Tough decision for me.

BBKers, I could see Detroit interested in Stralman too. Gives them a righty. I'd want Ryan Sproul back in return though, which would defeat the purpose of the trade for Detroit, though.

For Nash, the deal starts with Mantha, Tatar, and Franzen, and goes from there.

If both Cally and Girardi are dealt it would probably mean that del zotto stays and is thereafter qualified
Look at trading the other UFAs as well. Boyle, Stralman and Brassard (RFA) will all bring back pretty decent returns at the deadline. Not all but some should then be moved if they are not part of the longtime plan
Pray that Richards remains healthy for the buyout
Stockpile assets
Bring up Allen, Lindberg, Kristo. Big Mac (when healthy) and Fast
Have fun
Draft (and/or trade) wisely
Go on a crazy run and make the playoffs with a decimated and young team
Fun fun fun
Parade against all odds

Otoh it looks like Sather is saving money to make a splash in an entirely different direction on the trade market
18th in capspending in the NHL right now with $7,186,063 to spend at the deadline
Does not bode well at all - I fear some crazy Sather veteran BS a coming

That's a legitimate worry, though I doubt we see as many blocked shots on the bigger ice. If the Rangers trade Callahan before the Olympics, the return won't be as good as if they wait till the deadline, unless a team offers something the Rangers can't refuse. It's a risky proposition.

Crow, did you mean Ottawa's first in door one? If so that makes it close.

I'd probably take option 2 but I am high on Kerdilles.

There is only 1 week until the deadline when the NHL resumes play after the Olympic break.

You deal with it. Letting good players walk to UFA is a HORRIBLE move and HORRIBLE asset management.

Detroit is up and down this year, but they want to win now. That core is old. Very old. Their window is closing rapidly.
Agreed. I am thinking Detroit would like to add Stralman. Less cost, lower cap hit/

This makes the most sense. Make sure to get a good young defenseman for Girardi. Let DZ bring in a forward.

Allen looked good.

Either/or it doesn't much matter.

This is what I worry about as well.

If the Rangers were smart, they would use the bolded as a HUGE weapon when they move players. Retaining cap hit especially is a great way to maximize a return. All expiring contracts.

I did, I was already thinking of the 2nd proposal when I typed it out. Kerdiles is a PPG player at Wisconsin in his sophomore season, he's flying under the radar big time.

It's going to be a very busy week. Kevin Allen had it right last week. The trade market is quiet because GM's aren't admitting that their teams are poorly constructed this early in the season. Like it or not, it's going to stay quiet for quite a while longer.

I think there will be major discussions during the Olympic Break. Most GM's are seeing what happens over the next week as there are a lot of games to be played but I am hoping the Carcillo trade leads to one of Boyle/Moore being moved for picks/prospects. Both are going to walk for nothing anyways.

If you've been following my posts you know that I'm in the small minority that wants to keep Del Zotto anyways. Qualify him and see how he does next year. Trading him now would be horrific asset management.

Brassard should be packaged with someone else, he's worth more in a package than by himself. I don't see him as a part of the team going forward. He's not consistent enough to be the 2nd line center going forward, and he's not good enough in his own end to be the 3rd line center.

Buy out Richards, this team is going to have lots of cap space if they trade even one of Girardi or Callahan. A friend of mine and I were discussing this the other night. Imagine if Sather goes absolutely nuts in July and signs one of Thornton or Marleau AND Dan Boyle? Wouldn't be the first time.

Sbisa is a throw-in simply because the Ducks have too many defenders on the roster. Not the main piece in the deal. He does, however, have upside and the raw tools the Rangers like.

I've always been pretty "meh" about Kerdiles. Always thought he was the type of player who rode along with better players. Palmieri I do like.

They should key-in on Vatanen. They need a d-man like him. He is being under-valued in Anaheim.

Palmieri would fit this team to a 't'. Speed. 2-way play. Some offense.

I know Sweden isnt lacking in good skaters, but on the Olympic Ice, how do you *not* take one of the fastest skaters on the planet?
