I understand the logic, but what about in 2018 when 1/3 of team is brand new? I think they missed an opportunity to groom 2018 hopefuls by not adding them as the 13/14 instead of Kunitz and Carter. Jeff Carter? I mean, really?

Worst. Announcement. Ever.

As for the team. Looks like a very safe roster to me. Safe = death.

No Giroux or MSL is crazy to me. Our wingers suck.

No guarantee NHLers will be their in 2018. You dont pick the team to get them experience for an event that right now is probably 50/50 that the NHL is even there.

So it looks like Hockey Canada is taking a page from the US, they're going to play and have fun, if they win great, but just having fun is the important part.

Ugh, Hockey Canada, not good.

Picking on errors like these is childish, I know, but I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I read this.

I'm not as down on the Nash pick as others, he's been not good this year but he has that rare combination of size and strength and he has played well internationally before. I'm more worried about our defense to be honest.
Donno what there is to worry about on defense? That defense is rock solid. Defensively and offensively.

I know Nash has had a tough year, but the dude has been money for Canada in the past. He has a ton of international success.

I like this team. I'm OK with Kunitz and I really like Duchene, Subban, Hamhuis, and Benn.

I'm kind of meh on Marleau, that's about it. Rather have Giroux. Too bad Couture is injured.

I like the Marleau pick tbh. Still one of the best skaters in the NHL and he's having one of his best years yet.

A guy like Marleau or Kunitz I'm fine with because they are having amazing years. It's picks like Carter and Nash who are having so-so years that bug me.

Is there serious doubt they wont be? Was that not covered off in 2014 pre-oly meetings?

Nash has sucked the last two years and has struggled-- he is the one pick I really hate

Kunitz-Crosby-Stamkos
Tavares-Getzlaf-Perry
Nash-Toews-Sharp
Duchene-Bergeron-Carter
Benn, Marleau

I think we see Nash and Toews together to start the tournament with Sharp as they all have chemistry. Hard to pin who is going to be with Getzlaf and Perry, but Tavares or Duchene is my bet.

Safe and veteran for sure. Woulda considered Hall/MSL/Sequin over Kunitz - at least they can be dynamic by themselves.
Couture's going under the knife, so I understand him not coming.

There's a few players on this roster to pass the torch to.

Tavares, Duchene, Subban. Toews will be there in 4 years, we'll be fine then, but thats 4 years from now.

Love that Weber is on the team. Happy to see Subban get picked this year too.

Amazing how a terrible first month to the season dropped him off the team.

First 15 games of the year 0 goals 7 assists and -11
Since then 12 goals 31 points in 27 games and +13

Carter, Duchene, Marleau and Kunitz are the 4 fwds I didn't include on my mock team, but I am ok with Marleau for sure. If they win I won't care that certain players were omitted. With that said, I have serious doubts that Kunitz's NHL success with Crosby will translate to international success: has he EVER played internationally before?

Also: Hall has out produced Duchene significantly over the past 3 years, so why take a C and force them to play out of position while not taking a more productive player that actually is a LW?

Very surprised about St Louis and Giroux both being left off.

I'm drooling already thinking of that 4th place medal around the players necks.

Yzerman: "I thought we were going to talk about the players that made the team?"

lol, just a tad sensitive about this process. I can only imagine the pressures being put on him from myriad sources to pick this player or that player.

I thought because of Canada depth that there would be no way I would be upset at roster. I was wrong.
