Is Don Cherry making the selections this year?

No matter the reason, rough start or not Giroux should be on team Canada. Good news is he can put all this anger into playing for us. If he's the player we all believe he is then I expect him to really turn it up.

Maybe he can slapshot a puck into Yzermans suite

I may get flamed for this, but why is someone like Tavares so much more highly regarded than Giroux at this stage of their careers?

As much as I would love for G to score 4 goals and put up a 6 point game, obviously its unlikely.

Maybe it's just me, but I'm glad Giroux isn't on Team Canada. I take a look at all those picks and it's clear that politics played a HUGE factor in all the decisions made. Maybe it's best that Giroux not get caught up in the politics and just focus on carrying the Flyers on his back to the playoffs. Besides, it's not as if he's the only player who shouldn't have made the team. There were quite a number of noticeable players who should have been on the team that didn't make it.

Once again Hockey Canada leaves me shaking my ****ing head. Brutal, I hope Giroux actually snubs Hockey Canada for along time. He's going to finish top 10 maybe top 5 in points this year.. mark my words.. and the LIKES OF ****ING RICK NASH ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME.
Giroux is a proven playoff performer, 1st line centre and is finally recovered from his injury. He would rip apart big ice much like he did when he was in JR. I was actually going to stream the games in Australia, now I actually have little desire to watch this team get exposed because their simply to ****ing slow to compete on big ice.

Because he was the 1st overall pick.

You can thank the Canadian media for that. They're the ones that touted him as "The Next Crosby" as a sixteen year old. In comparison to other recent number one overall selections, he's very mediocre.

Which would be a giant waste of roster space then.

Kunitz played well with Perry and Getzlaf in the past as well. It's the Nash selection that really has me scratching my head...

He's much better than any of Edmonton's #1 picks and is the 4th highest scoring Canadian this decade behind St Louis, Stamkos and Giroux.

If they're looking for those 'glue' guys, or role players or whatever, they really should have selected Couture. I'm not his biggest fan, but the guy is criminally underrated. He even plays on the wing, just like Canada wants.

Honestly, I think it all boils down to politics.

Your mistake is thinking you're going to find people on the main board who actually know what they're talking about haha. 99% of them are idiots and it's very hard to find the 1% that actually knows what they're talking about.

I don't think anyone doubts that Couture makes the team if he didn't get hurt a few days ago.

So what is more politically egregious...

Shanahan's "one-eyed" suspension decisions or the Olympic selections by Team USA and Canada..particularly the latter?

I really don't think the exclusion of Giroux was motivated by HC politics (or Ryan from the USA, for that matter). I'm just not seeing it. The easy choice would have been to bring Giroux over Duchene or Marleau. I don't think it was the right call--and I think Giroux is going to make them regret it--but I don't see any cause for ascribing darker motives to the choices.

Semin being left off Team Russia for a bunch of KHLers.... Vrbata being left off the Czech team for 42 year old Peter Nedved, among others--those are examples of political team selection.

It's hard to be a Flyers fan on the internet, anyway. I swear I can't state my opinion without being accused of throwing batteries at people.
