I swear Kadri is the ultimate example of a "grass is always greener" player.

Brassard is the same player, a little older and a little bigger. Why would you trade him PLUS other assets to get Kadri?

Yes, No Kadri pls.

Brassard is enough, hopefully they get rid of him too, PP be damned.

You know why. You just don't want to say what most of us are thinking.

Ya know, I'm not sure I agree there. Kadri has some elements to his game that Brassard does not. Namely a stronger ability to finish and a swagger on the ice when it comes to physical play and getting under the skin of the opponent. He also has the ability to play all 3 forward positions, where I think Brassard is very underwhelming on the wing.

Trading Brassard+ for him is another story.

Add in a prospect and it's basically what we got for Ryan who had two years left.
The point is there's no reason to trade him to any particular team just to give them a discount. Trading him will be hard for us - a huge blow to our defense that is already in shambles. A fair trade will likely result in a similar reaction from you and your fan base.

Girardi is quality and should receive quality in return. I don't understand how some on this board undervalue his worth but he's worth a lot on the open market. He's the best available defenseman free agent this year. He has a lot of playoff experience. He's a leader and he logs 22-27 minutes a game. He can play on the PP and the PK and will be a top pairing shut down defenseman.

People on here are saying a B or low A level prospect and a low first round pick for that? Laughable. There's not a lot available for defense right now. Teams are struggling, mightily, to get solid players. He's a top pairing guy with all the positives I listed above.

In addition, if we're getting a package CENTERED around prospects and picks the team giving that package will have to add MORE value. If we look at players as commodities, a prospect is one that hasn't reached it's full value and has a high probability (historically speaking) of never reaching it. That means there is a large associated risk with trading for prospects. What Girardi is, is proven and established... and not only that but dominant in his trade too. We're giving up something with proven high-end worth. For the trade to make sense to us, centered around getting things that have high associated risks, there needs to be an inflation from the trading partner - no matter if the hypothetical ceiling value of what we are receiving is higher than what you are getting. You're paying for certainty, therefore the price needs to be higher if you're paying with uncertainty. Simple as that.

If Etem/Palmieri are your top prospects and you realistically get Girardi... expect one of them to be headed our way (if the trade is centered around one of your prospects in general). After that, add in a first, which shouldn't even be that big of a deal for you to let go of, considering you have a better one from Ott already in hand and because the one you hold is bound to be between the 25-29 range.

Last two seasons:
Brassard: 90 GP 18 G 34 A 52 Pts
Kadri: 87 GP 29 G 38 A 67 Pts

Brassard can be a UFA after next season. Kadri is controllable for 4 more seasons.

Why wouldn't you trade Brassard + for Kadri?

yea no way you trade both MDZ and girardi..

either or..

and to be honest.. i wouldnt move MDZ still summer..

hell still will be an RFA and a very controllable and valuable player, we dont have to trade him and definitely not for just anything..

having the possibility both MDZ and Girardi being dealt by the deadline let alone next year would be detrimental and set us back big time and more then we realize..

i dont understand why you guys are so down to move g..

dudes not 33.. hes 29 soon to be 30.. 30 isnt a scary number in the nhl and i trust signing a long term with a dman then a fwd..

plus callahan/drury comparison is way off... drury was never skated and hit like callahan.. drury was more defensive minded and had better scoring touch.. but cally skates way better and is faster..

giving him a long term deal wouldn't kill us like his.. both will be effective players through there early 30s..

ottawa sun was saying stasny is available and the asking price is a young nhl ready player and a first..

i wouldn't give mdz right up but i can see something work around..

MDZ, prospect like fast, 2nd for Stasny Barrie
-prob have to add just dont know what i would give

Just to try and establish a different locker room culture. Kadri isn't too bright. His effort level isn't there consistently. Talent wise, sure he has the tools to be great but Brassard also had a lot of promise too his first few years.

Also, -31-, I believe we had a debate several months ago about keeping players out of games/practices if they were in imminent trade talks. Believe NBC made some sort of note about how all involved players were held out of any games and practices the day leading up to the trade and the day of.

Seems like teams do operate in this manner. At least those 2.

brass is an RFA and no reason not to hang on to him..
-they are the same player.. younger? brass is 25 thats not old..

honestly id resign him and if anything bring in a number 1 center and put him on the wing next year..

i like his skill set ad hes deff an asset..prob wont ask for a lot of money to resign and i think he wants a home not be a journeyman switching to another team.. might be traded but i can see him sticking around another few years..

this is deff a lateral move for sure.. same way i view a MDZ for Gardiner.. give mdz a legit shot and confidence to play and a chance at top 4.. dude shouldnt be given in a trade for just anyone... and when on his game is better then stralman.. i know its a huge huge if but worth the risk..

What I was saying was: Brassard, while a RFA this summer, can be a UFA the next summer. Whereas Kadri still has to play 4 more seasons after this one before being UFA eligible. Brassard is 26, btw. Not old, but past the age where you expect players to improve their production. Kadri is 23, so based on that alone, you would expect his peak years to be in front of him.

Disagree. Kadri is more skilled than Brass, IMO. Brass has never had a season like Kadri had in 2013. He's also 23, which is three years younger than Brassard. Makes a big difference.

Kadri, aside from this year, basically has about one season's worth of games under his belt. He's still inexperienced an developing. No reason why he can't be a consistent 55-60 point C with and edge and some skill. I think his upside is potentially higher, too.

Will have to agree, at this point Brass + = Kadri. The + is small enough though.

Just going off what the broadcast said. Remember Doc distinctly saying something about how all the players were held out of practice the day before and the morning of. I don't have inside information on either club... or any for that matter ... but relaying what I heard.

i see where your at, but expect peak years ahead? based on that Brass would just be entering them.. I think this year with the team doing bad, adjusting to a new coach who doesn't seem like hes ontop of your everymove, as well as not really given an opportunity with the top 6 early on (minutes wise) bc richards was hot, has hurt him.. dudes nearly a ppg in the last 10 and i think moving fwd kadri isnt an upgrade its a lateral move.. i wish we really had another physically engaged player like a healthy dubi/Clowe bc clowe being physical gave brass and mza time and space and they were very successful last year.. all in all i keep him.. mve him and DZ for potential young game breaker or true 1c/2c possibly even for stasny+ barrie or young prospect d or fwd

your prob the same person on this fan that hates on stepan to, with being a ppg player last year and not at the same production this year as last..

its a lateral move at best.. you trade for upgrades or true potential/prospects not same type of player..

Gleason was held out of all team activities for Carolina, but he wasn't playing for them anyways.

Liles definitely took warmups in the Winter Classic though, and got traded during the game. Someone more resourceful than me could probably dig up a pic.

Whats the latest and greatest on MDZ? Shark fan still wanting him..Whats it gonna take?

Tyler Kennedy
Freddie Hamilton
2014 1st or 2nd

Rangers get some secondary scoring and a player who can play top 9 and signed for another year at 2.3mil in Kennedy. Hamilton is a capable youngster who is slotted to be a 3C down the road with a 2way game. And a pick for good measure.

thoughts?

Can confirm he was taking warm-ups when pulled off because of the trade.
