Healthy scratch? Hmm...

Rangers have liked him since DZ for ROR rumors were swirling a couple years ago...

Looks like a shoulder injury. Not a healthy scratch.

I can't see NYR landing ROR for Del Zotto alone, but that is one possibility that is very welcome.

I would hope his father doesn't insert himself into any future contract negotiations.

ROR can't be traded until Feb 1st. I also think that MDZ for ROR ship is long gone. Roy loves ROR, and they have plenty of cap room to sign all of their players.

He injured his shoulder for anyone wondering why he was scratched.

There are few players I think would be a better fit than ROR.

Doubt he is moved though. He's a cornerstone there.

Size, speed and puck intensity along with a high hockey IQ is the name of the game.

There will always be exceptions to that rule but if I'm drafting I want big guys that can skate. All things being equal.
Well, all things being equal, so would I. But usually things aren't equal. Stepan is an effective player despite being not the fleetest of foot or the biggest.

Agreed, and it's here I think this org must just step in and do a great job with Brassard. Like Chicago has done with Sharp, for example.

It shouldn't be impossible teach Brassard to become solid enough 2-way for it to always make sense to have him on the ice. When he reach that stage, the consistency issues offensively often works themselves out. Like with Sharp in Chicago.

The diffrence between the best and the rest today is puck possession no doubt. You need defense and a physical game too, but that is not what separates the top 6 from team 7-16. Not many teams would have a 3rd line center with more raw offensive ability than Brass if he became a 3rd line center. Could function on a 2nd line depending on linemates too.

He ain't quite there yet, but too good IMO just to dump.

Yeah, but that's the way it's going.

Allan Wash tweeted this a day or two ago:
@walsha: 1 year ago today, the NHL's 3rd lockout in history came to an end. Where are we now? Upper Limit projected to be near $80M within 2 seasons.

One year during the worst financial crash in 80 years, the NHL had no growth. If we count on zero growth (will never happen over several years), the PA still has a 5% bumper.

80m x 1.05 ^ 5 = 102m

This meaning that as an absolute minimum, if the league has zero growth for five straight years, instead of 5-10 percent growth that it always have otherwise, the cap hit is 102m in Y7 of a contract signed this summer. A 5m contract then, is like 3.150 today. Girardi must be 35-36 going into that season and Cally 34-35.

Like I said, I am scared for 6-7m per for these guys, the last thing that scares me is the length of the deals. And this is counting on NMCs. If we could get LTCs, I would have thought it to be no-brainers without any single doubt.

Drury made 7m when the cap was in the 50s-60s. Ie that will be like making 12-14m per 5 years into Cally and Gs possible deals.

That was Drurys problem. We wouldn't have minded him had he played on that 3rd line making 2.5-3m per. He made the OGs in 06' even.

DZ and Brassard and a 3rd for O'Reily and Barrie.

Any chance at landing O'Reily for DZ and Brassard? If we're going to trade DZ we might as well get something good and not whatever crap #6-7 D Toronto or Ottawa want to give us.

I see Brass as expendable, and like O'Reily over Brass. Maybe the piece coming back with O'Reily is something else?

Either way I'd very much like a center lineup of Stepan/O'Reily/Miller/Boyle.

That's about as likely as Brassard for Crosby at this point. ROR has flown up in value while MDZ has tanked. MDZ would probably be little more than a sweetener at this point… not to mention ROr can't be moved until Feb.

That's not even remotely close to fair value at this point. MDZ has become our 6th defenseman, and Brassard is, well, Brassard. RoR should hit 60 points with top notch defense. I doubt he gets moved since Roy loves him, but if he did, then they'd get a much better package for their 22 yr old center.

Did anyone see the pre game show with Eddie Olczyk last night? He doesn't believe Staal will re-sign with the Rangers. Edzo isn't a rumor monger. Maybe he heard something from someone around the Rangers. Some of the support staff is still with the Rangers from when Edzo played with the Rangers. Trainers. Equipment people. Those guys know all of the dirt. Contract or no contract, the Rangers should move Staal.

Did you see Newport wants $8M-$9M for Subban? He will be two years away from group III. Bob McKenzie said PK will file for salary arbitration and get 1 year at $7M. He can file again in 2015. One year. Group III. Newport must be demanding a mint for Girardi. McKenzie said another team will give Subban $9M if the Habs won't. Same deal with Girardi. Newport doesn't give hometown discounts. Perry contract from last season. Lundqvist. Phaneuf. Scotty Morrison said Girardi is a $6M player. Someone must have given him that number. If the guy in Toronto is worth $7M,Girardi is worth $6M. Its up to the Rangers if they want to pay that over 7 years. Another team will give it to him. What does Callahan want? $7M? Minimum of $6M. Thats a lot of money for intangibles. 7 years for him too.

I was thinking the same thing last night. I'd even throw in a late round pick if it makes the difference, and an AHL player (not a serious prospect) to take a contract back.

Del Zotto>Barrie by himself, and McGinn would be a great 3rd liner for this team. Imagine a line with him and Hagelin on it.

How valuable is he to the Avs? He's do for a raise.

Giving Callahan that type of money/term would be an utter disaster in my opinion. He has value, and should be shopped. I just can't see him being productive for another 6-7 years - especially when you're talking about a top line player salary.

I'd certainly entertain moving Staal at this point if the feeling is that he'll leave - especially since I'm not convinced if his game will ever fully recover. The concussions scare me as well - not sure what his value is at the moment.

Of the three - I'd be most apt to resign Girardi. I could do $6 mill over 4 years, but if you're looking at 6 or 7 years, then that's a tough signing to make. I'm not confident he'll be a top pairing guy at 34-35 years old. However, of the 3, I'd be most comfortable with him long term. I'd really try to negotiate with him, but push comes to shove you can't lose him for nothing.

The Rangers are at a crossroads… I just hope Sather isn't asleep at the wheel here. The worst possible thing would be to slip into the playoffs and get blown out by Pitt/Boston, then watch these assets all leave for nothing leaving this team in a VERY precarious situation going forward.
