I'm not at all discounting the value of the 1st/4th/4th, but the best player Carolina gave up was an impending UFA fourth-liner/AHLer (Zigomanis). Boulerice is trash and I doubt Kahnberg ever plays an NHL game.
They still got 1st and 2 4th and Forsberg is way better then Weight. Yes, he's injury prone but he could have a huge impact on a team.

How does getting another C (Forsberg or someone else) help our poor 5 on 5 play? How does it help the porous D zone coverage and breakout passing which leads to the team to be pinned in their own zone for long stretches?

The coaching needs to improve as well along with the talent upgrade. We are not here to win championships on paper.

Plus we might need our assets to upgrade our defence next year if we lose Markov, Souray or both. Hell we could lose all 3 of our UFA defencement and end up having to resign a couple guys like ninimaa.
Most of the season we had 2nd-4th highest points in the eastern conference, we ARE serious cup contenders people... wake up.

I totaly agree with you that this team needs a major change of strategy in terms of overall play... I mean do we have enough of this crappy defensive play!

But don't underestimate what a player like Forsberg can bring. He's the best overall player in the league (when healthy of course). Great in both ends of the ice, plays a physical game, makes his teamates better and can elevate his play in important games...plus he's a great leader...

What a poorly informed article.

The habs are a team that is scoring by commitee, we don't need secondary scoring, we have that in abundance. In fact, it's all we have!!

We need primary scoring, but we don't need to sign anyone to do that, we just need guys like Koivu, Ryder, Higgins & Kovy to start producing like they can.

Samsonov, Latendresse, Johnson, Perezhogin and Bonk can take care of the 'secondary' scoring.

Well getting Forsberg automatically increases our time with the puck. More time with the puck = more time in their zone = less time in our and less chances against us.

It's not the solution to the problem, but it's a start. What is team needs is a very good puck moving defenseman or an elite scorer like Forsberg.

They are, IMO. We need a legit 1.0 PPG player. Only question with Forsberg is health.

Best quote of the thread. Better yet, I have proof

As for secondary scoring, as some have pointed out, the Habs could use some primary scoring. We have enough guys who contribute on a semi regular basis, but what we need is a bonafide star who is going to produce above 1PPG for us.

I think we need both. I would rather get the elite puck mover by sacrificing some futures and get a Tier II center (someone like Stumpel for example) to play on the second line.

I think that St. Louis could be a an interesting trading partner. I'd preferably like to see us pick up a top 6 forward and a top 4 D for a good playoff run. They have both Guerin and Brewer up for grabs. Guerin (RW) would add size, speed, veteran presence, still very capable of playing a top six role and he's won a cup. He's a UFA at the end of the season and likely going back to St.louis in the off-season making him a rental and shouldn't cost us much. Brewer would be harder to land but the Blues need goaltending so Abby or one of our prospects could easily be a big part of this deal. Just a thought, Tkachuk (C,LW) is also up for grabs same deal as Guerin.
