Guerin a Star, again, in Dallas....

All star that is. Although I'm not sure how he's deserving.

http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=...ticleid=287805

Something about the article makes me want to hack up a huge hairball. Maybe its:

Quote:
"It feels great to be here, honest to God,"
uh, right, I'm sure it was great times, this, from Guerin, is about as convincing as Pronger saying, well, anything.

or

Quote:
"I never felt any pressure regarding my contract," Guerin said of the lucrative free-agent deal he signed to join the Stars. There is the good pressure, the pressure you put on yourself to succeed. I just tried to go out and play my game every night. I wish we had had a chance to win a Cup here. It just didn't work out.. "
It just didn't work out,... oh well, thanks for all the $..

Or maybe its the article:

Quote:
"so his return for the 2007 NHL All-Star festivities is a homecoming"
Wow, would anybody believe that? Battlin Billy, Guerin the "Butcher" as he was affectionately known and hated by Dallas fans before they adopted him as their own..

Or maybe its the overall surreal sense that big bucks or not theres some places that players shouldn't play if theres to be any competitive credibility left in the pro game.

After the Edm-Dallas Wars it always seemed wrong to see Guerin as a star. Along with Smyth he was the most reviled oiler. But maybe they learned to love cuddly Bill.

Like we learned to love FCP...nevermind

But Guerin, the NHL rep, always on sale to the highest bidder would likely play in Baghdad if there was more $ in it. He could be the butcher of Baghdad...sorry.

I'm officially getting sick of pro sports. I no longer see a true competitive aspect, dedication to team, one team, or any real afinity to club.

Which brings me back to an essential question. If the players no longer care about the logo how are we supposed to?

Keeping Smyth, the first possible significant player to play his whole career here, is important to me as a last vestige of some form of Stevie Y lineage thats been sadly lost.

If Smyth ever became a Star I don't know what I'd do. I mean Dallas Star, some things are just plain wrong.
I'm fine with him being an allstar but don't put him on a line with Billy please..

I got mixed up with 2002 and thought Dallas acquired Billy from Boston sometime in 2002. Year later.

my bad.

But as a fan how do you like a player you, as a fan base, passionately hated before?
It would be like Billy Smith or Ron Hextall playing goal for the Oil.

Edit: whoops, if you're in Germany it might be hard to gauge the local Dallas pulse on this.

Billy "The Butcher" Guerin was hated by the Av fans after he high sticked Forsberg at the end of a playoff game in 1998 I believe, not Dallas.

Dallas fans also hated Guerin, hated the Oil, and showed much more animosity than Av's fans in general.

I remember several lengthy online dialogues with Dallas fans at the time. Billy was a butchering <female dog> that should be banned from hockey forever was the general Dallas fan consensus. This I should mention was on uncensored newsgroups.

Some other comments about goatheads and horns and such

It got lively always.

He got a pretty big cheer when introduced for the Fastest skater competition.

Micommunication happens, but hot girl avatars are universal.
