Our defense is pretty awful ATM, so I think we need to hold on to Oleksiak for the time being. He's got #2 d-man potential, but who knows if he'll ever reach it. In the games he's played with Dallas, he's looked nervous and tentative (like most rookies). He needs to learn how to use his size to his advantage because he hasn't shown too much of a physical edge to his game as of yet.

Because you're the ones who want Oleksiak and dallas isn't going to give up that potential unless they fill a hole on their roster right now.

Will something around Peter Holland for Oleksiak work?

I've always liked Holland. I think he will be a solid 2C in the NHL, but we already have Eakin who is serviceable for now as a 2C. It could be argued that Eakin is a 3C, but like I said, I think we should keep Oleksiak unless a deal comes up where it's an absolute no-brainer.

Would Toronto be willing to add a little bit more to Holland?

Chiasson + Ritchie seems to possible be equal to that kind of package.

Sigh... haven't seen Chiasson play have we?... if I was Dallas I wouldn't trade him straight up for an injury prone, old UFA to be Markov. They're not a Markov a way from contending. Markov is great but that trade is awful for Dallas.

Agreed. If taking previous trades into consideration there's just nothing out there pointing to the fact that Markov would return such a package.

*Sekera was traded to Carolina for McBain and a 2:nd round pick

*Oduya went to Chicago for a 2:nd and a 3:rd round pick. Grossman returned the same pieces upon his trade to Philly.

*Zidlicky returned quite a large package in Foster, Palmieri, Veilleux as well as two picks. A 2:nd rounder and a conditional 3:rd. Regardless neither of the players coming back to Minnesota had any real value by the time of the trade.

*The Capitals traded Dennis Wideman (UFA) who at the time was elected to the all star game to Calgary for a 5:th round pick and a nobody prospect in Jordan Henry.

Put shortly. There's nothing supporting that Markov would return such a package.

Yes teams often give up 3 of their best prospects/young players (and a pick) in a deal that doesn't get them back a star player.

If that would work, that's what the Ducks would have done. Holland was worth a 3rd and Blacker with an off chance of it becoming a 2nd. That doesn't come close to Oleksiak. Holland's value hasn't skyrocketed by playing 5 minutes in Toronto.

This is absolutely horrible. I don't think this would even work on NHL 14.

How about we take it that he wasn't gonna crack Anaheim roster and sold for salary cap issues due to his RFA status? Also he has performed very well on 2nd line when he was given the chance. Any way I am happy keeping him, would rather believe in what I've seen than just a blind shot.

There were no salary cap issues. You're right about the first part. And you absolutely should be fine keeping him. But his value hasn't exploded from his 20 games in Toronto, where he played under 10 minutes for the biggest part.

Too good of a player if he played 10 mins and still got 10 points out of 12 matches, don't you think? Yeah he may not entice you because you haven't watched him but he is every bit of worth Oleksiak if your need is absolutely #2 center and is still young and RFA.

I am a Ducks fan. I have watched Holland more than enough, and have seen a few Leafs games, as well. If he was close to worth Oleksiak, we would have taken that deal every day. It's not close.

We either need to wait it out with Oleksiak and let him develop, or trade him as part of a monster package for a #1D.

Three of our best prospects/young players and a second for an aging defensemen, a rather slow developing offensive defensemen prospect (We don't need another one) and a cap dump.

What made you think this was an acceptable proposal?

As bad as he's looked so far, I still believe he'll be a late bloomer like most D his size (see Chara, Zdeno). Don't think he should be moved just yet.
