Team USA eliminated at WJC. Let the Samuelsson second guessing begin.

The reasoning behind leaving him off just seems so petty. "Well, he isn't a real full blooded American, I guess." Who the hell is?

Samuelsson plays with an edge. The downside is he takes a great deal of selfish dumb penalties. At the WJC you just can't afford those. Regardless though he should have made team. They wanted a reason to leave him off and they found it. Worked for them last year. This year it may have cost them.

Just my personal hockey philosophy, but I'll always take competitive fire over complacency or not caring. I can forgive a player for doing something dumb if he is playing to win, even in a tournament style setup. You need a certain amount of those players in every lineup, and most every losing organization lacks these players. I will never like or care about a warm body collecting a paycheck. We've seen our fair share of those here in the valley.

My only concern with Samuelsson is the short leash he might have with Tippett. I think the truculence is part of his game, just like Brown. And just like Brown, the coaching staff might neuter him and take away a major part of his game by not forgiving him for the odd dumb penalty. Brown took a minor penalty his first game of one of his callups and got benched the rest of the game. I hate that. The quick hook engenders a lack of confidence and uneasiness, not attention to detail. These are unpolished kids taking their first pro steps.

I'm not worried about Domi. Everyone around him will be bigger and older, and he'll be too focused on not messing up defensively to have the time to take dumb penalties.

Yet they brought along Matteau who is twice as dumb and half the player.

Another multi-point night for Domi. Only 2 periods in and he has 4 Assists. +3

That's his 5th 4 point game in the last 9 games played (4th in the last 6 games played - Total of 19 points in last 6 games; 26 points in last 9 games).

Not motivated at all (sarcasm) by being left off Team Canada.

He was named OHL Player of the Month earlier today. Nice to see that hasn't lessened the chip on his shoulder.

so they took away an assist on a late goal in the 2nd period but Domi got an assist on an early goal in the third. He's now +4 on the night (with 4 Assists)

Not to be outdone but Samuelsson with a 4 point night as well. 4 Assists +2. Now tied for 11th in WHL scoring.

He's rocketed up to 9th in OHL scoring, in 5-7 fewer games than everybody ahead of him. The only guys with a better scoring rate are Dane Fox and Connor Brown, both of whom are a year ahead of Domi. And that all includes his slow start. "Domi"nant performance so far.

Knight fans don't seem real pleased with his two way play, though.

That's how the Hunters have always run things. If you are Bo Horvat, Austen Watson or Vladislav Namestnikov, you are expected to be an elite level two-way player (they just acquired Gemel Smith for this, too) but if you are Max Domi, John Tavares, or Robbie Schremp, you are free to cherry pick to your heart's delight. The London Knights have always taken role playing to the extreme.

Dave Tippett is obviously very different in terms of individual expectations. That said, Domi is obviously being groomed to take over for Ray Whitney or maybe even Mike Ribeiro some day. Whitney and Ribs have never been expected to perform defensively in any fashion other than "mostly passable" and sometime downright poor. Those aren't exactly lofty expectations for young Max to live up to, ya know?

As far as Knights fans on hf go, there's a little too much of the team Bo versus team Max thing going on due to the debate about upside dating back to the year prior to their draft years. The microscope and confirmation bias has become a little extreme, at this point, after three years of watching guys trying to prove that one side or the other is the most correct. Kind of like right now with Coyotes fans Mike Smith is the worst goaltender we've ever had and Thomas Greiss is a messiah the walks on water.

He may be a one trick pony but it's a hell of a trick.

All the talk of Domi made me want to look up recent videos..I did and watched them and he looks NHL ready to me but this is just a few highlights I saw.

I think he will make the roster next year.

He's not even at a PPG in his fourth season of Q play. A little early to peg him as amounting to anything.

When I watched Hache in his draft year, I mistook him for an overage defensive D. He was very steady and mature. I didn't see any offensive upside. Still, you are right, he SHOULD be putting up big points at this stage in his junior career.
