Anyone else noticing that since OKC adopted the same systems as EDM they've also really sucked?

The personnel are different and there are more opportunities for developing players, but there's a pretty significant success difference between the 2012-13 and 2013-14 Barons.

It really makes me think more and more Eakins is not a good coach. Nelson is using Eakins systems, something that is clearly not comfortable for him to do, the team had better goal tending this year and somehow is doing worse. Our offense is almost non existent, outside of when Omark was playing and our defense is looking awful compared to what it should be

If Nelson was doing his thing like before Imo they would be doing a lot better. It's a shame, it was nice seeing OKC do great, gave me hope for the future... Now they are equally as bad and it sucks

I think a bigger issue is a lack of scoring forwards. Last year they had Arcobello and Rajala. This year they've had Omark and nothing.

Its been noted by guys that follow the Barons regularly that Nelson always played this sort of system already in place. I'd say the biggest reason for the Barons struggles this year has been the incredible amount of roster turnover, losing their starting goalie for periods of time, and lack of scoring depth. The Barons have already had close to 100 roster transactions and its barely the halfway point of their season.

Not to mention they also lost Hartikainen, Cheechoo and Cornet.

It's crazy...when you include the natural losses of Hall/Eberle/Schultz once the CBA was ratified, OK went into this season missing their top 8 scorers from last season.

Small wonder this year's been a struggle for offensive production.

Honestly, having the AHL club employ the same system as the NHL club is a fantastic idea that the Oilers should continue to do every year from now on. Notice how AHL callups like Marincin, Pitlick, and Lander can just come in and play like they always do. It lets them play in their comfort zone and only focus on things such as adjusting to NHL level speed. The only problem is that Eakins' system is pretty bad.

I agree that homogeneity between the farm and parent club is definitely the way to go (and a little pathetic it has taken EDM so long to implement it). However, as you mentioned, the way things are going in OKC doesn't reflect well on Eakin's systems whether it's a fair observation or not.

Kyle Platzer was traded today along with dman Santino Centorame to Owen Sound for the Attack's top scorer Gemel Smith & a conditional 2017 5th rd. pick.

Sucks that we won't get to watch him in the Memorial Cup this year, but he'll certainly get a bigger role in Owen Sound.

In other random deadline news, Steve's son Adam left UND to join the Hitmen (who got his rights from Portland for a 1st). Guy Flaming mentioned that Adam and Oilers project Greg Chase were tight.

Agreed. He had good numbers (albeit in a small sample size) when guys like Horvat and Domi were at NHL camps, so he does have the ability. His numbers will almost certainly improve now, similar to how Remi Elie's have since he was dealt from London.

Good, Platzer should be able to lock down Top-6 minutes with the Attack.

Should be interesting to see Platzer in Owen Sound.

He'll get a bunch more playing time(maybe even as the #1C), but unfortunately there's basically no talent left on the Attack with Gemel Smith and Cam Brace traded.

Platzer might actually be the most naturally talented guy on the team now. At the very least, he's in the conversation with Zack Nastasiuk and Chris Bigras.

Does anyone have any info on Rimmer? Does he have a chance of getting a ELC?

I have no idea why they don't give Lander better wingers for a game or two instead of an enforcer and one of Jones, Joensuu, or Smyth.

I read somewhere that Lander was focused on not making mistakes during his call ups here. I don't have a problem if Lander doesn't produce points with us, as long as he's playing well and then working on his offense down in OKC I think he's doing a great job.

Yeah I was talking with Jonathan Willis about that. He thought it was for the reason stated above. I just hope Lander does not get to comfortable in the AHL. Two people assured me he was still hungry for the NHL but I did not see it in training camp.

Moroz with an assist
Khaira with 2G 2A
Betker with an assist
Houck with a goal

Good night for most (except Platzer and the entire top units for Owen Sound who all ended up -3 against Erie)
Also, I don't know if it's been mentioned but Marco Roy is back from his concussion.

6'4, 216lbs LW/C. Rookie season in the WHL, so far 32gp 12+14=26, +7, 33PIM

A power forward with a powerful stride, Khaira is tough to separate from the puck. He has the ability to find teammates and turn any play in to a scoring chance. Khaira plays with a mental and physical maturity that is beyond his years.
I wonder if he's been playing as a centre at all this season.

He has been. He centered the 2nd line in this game (Leedahl-Khaira-Stadnyk) and has been for awhile.

http://heraldnet.com/section/blog12 is ran by Patterson (the 'tips beat/blog reporter) and he puts up lineups before every game.

Not an Oilers prospect (not yet at least), but Aaron Ekblad has 4 goals after 2 periods tonight.
