I got this idea from the NHL Board, just wanted to see some of your thoughts on this. If the Rangers were just built on their drafts alone, their team would look something like this.

It have been a while now, but not all that long ago I heard reports of how NYR were the team with the most drafted players in the NHL.
maybe with our long history. that wouldn't surprise me. If you look in JUST the 80s, names that I recall from the list are

n8- If your count is correct thas 20 players currently in the NHL. Thats defenitly avg atleast, the avg is of course 20. Counting in that some make it without beeing drafted, that might make up the expansion factor.
to add some parameters - like say if the Rangers never made any trades what would today's lineup look like, and that would only include players that are currently active.

You have a point, draftpicks traded away should be in there somehow. Though its hard, no gaurantee that we would have taken JSG for example, or Nikita A.
Problem is that players age. So by the time you added a Prucha and a Callahan you'd have a very aged Weight and Amonte.
That's the problem with the approach. Even if you did very well and got 3 NHL players in every draft who developed in a certain amount of time, it'd still take you 9 years to work your way through the roster assuming everything went right.
Factor in variables such as age and decline, injuries and development time and you don't have very much wiggle room. You'd also be changing your draft strategy because instead of finding the best player you're trying to find a player who plays a specific position every year.
You also run into a problem of what happens if you end up with an abundance of RW's but you need a defenseman? Not all positions are as easy to come by as others.

Yeah, this is all just hypothetically speaking obviously. I just made it real simple, saw who we drafted, and if they were still playing at some capacity, I threw the best guys into a lineup.

No one is comparing teams here. This certainly isn't a contest. All this is, is a hypothetical for the Rangers, just for fun.
