Exactly, which is probably why it is like it is - the players want it that way. I'm still slightly annoyed at it at times though!

There's also the possibility that it's a shortened version of an much longer old family surname, like Pouliot Dit La Clergerie. Pronunciations in any language have a way of changing over time. If the word following Pouliot in the old surname started with a D, that part of it might have merged in. There's lots of reasons why it might not end up with the pure French pronunciation.

On the point of pronunciations I wish the announcers would do a bit more research on the European players' names, some are pretty butchered for no reason. Some names are difficult for English speakers to get right (like Forsberg, Syomin and Fyodorov), but others wouldn't be hard at all:

Selšnne: SELL-ane, not Sel-AAne

Landeskog: Lan-de-skooogh, not Lan-de-skogh

Hagelin: Haag-el-een (like Aladeen from The Dictator ), not Hag-el-in

Those examples shouldn't be hard at all to get phonetically right for an English speaker if they knew the correct pronunciation.

Though I think many of the Swedish players like their anglicized pronunciations and don't ask their announcers to change.

As long as we're on that subject Radek DvořŠk's name should be pronounced De-vor-zhak like the composer.

No one is. That would be unrealistic expectations for $1.3 million.

If he was a better, more consistent player, he would be paid as such.

I am enjoying the ride, as it has helped the Rangers inch forward. But sooner rather than latter, I expect a return to the norm. Which will not be very helpful.

You don't say.

The norm is stretches of high quality play mixed in with stretches of low quality play. The season, as a whole, is the norm.

Actually, I just said it.

And to me, the low quality is more frequent than high with him. I am hoping he surprises me.

I've done some research on the subject, and I can confirm: better, more consistent players do tend to get paid more.

Benny Poops has been a pleasant surprise this year. Even during his stretch where he wasn't playing well he made some clutch plays for us (DET game, NYI game etc). Can't go wrong for $1.3M. I'm hoping we resign him to a 2 year deal for ~$2M per if he keeps up his current play. He's a versatile player; great hands in front of the net on the PP, throws the body, and has an offensive minded 5 on 5 game. Really liking him right now

I'm wondering if Poo was just an AV away from using that 1st round draft talent...

I don't want to call it just yet, but it's possible we made something out of nothing?

Wouldn't surprise me. I think he's the odd man out in the event that we trade for someone at the deadline anyway.

Pouliot will never produce consistently. Never. He will never be a consistent goal scorer because he doesn't have the hands for it. Short of playing an entire season next to Crosby, he is not going to score 25 or even 20 goals.

But he can be an effective player consistently. He just needs to watch the bad penalties and turnovers.

He's not really a liability in the D zone. He worries me more in the offensive/neutral zone.

I'm happy he's found his game. He's got the size and speed (with a bit of offense) that you want on the wings of your bottom 6.

Put another game in the "BEN-WAHHH" column. He's been a big reason why this team is winning games during Nash and Stepan's cold streak.

I'm impressed with how hard Pouliot works for his goals. He never struck me as a player willing to take a beating to score a greasy goal.

But, is this the actual Pouliot that we could re-sign? AV has gave him the absolute best niche for him to succeed. I wonder if he falls back down to Earth, since around December he hasn't had a game where I wanted to jump out a window.

This line has the best cohesiveness of any unit since Dubinsky-Anisimov-Callahan, Pouliot is good in stretches but his best asset this year has been clicking with two very talented linemates.

You're right, but TECHNICALLY it's DvořŠk, with the "ř" making a very distinct and specific Czech letter/sound.
It's reallyyyy hard for Americans or foreigners to say. I always impress girls at parties

Just for ***** and giggles haha:

I also think he may be coming into his own. He has the skill set to be what he Rangers need on the left wing. Lets give credit while credit is due. He is making something of his abilities, with the help of the coaching staff. If he continues to be a hound on the puck, take the body, go to the net, and most importantly back check and be involved in the D end, he's gonna learn what it takes for him to flourish in this league.
