OT - Las Vegas

I've booked a trip to vegas for next month and I was wondering:

Best place to gamble?
Best Place to get cheap drinks?
Best Nightclubs?
Best Buffets?
Anything else you think I should know?

Should be a good time.

When are you going to be there next month? I'm there for a weekend too...

Best place to gamble? On the strip, I say the Monte Carlo. Limits are low and the casino is pretty decent. If you want really low limits and better odds, gamble off the strip. If you're looking for an upper-class place, go to Bellagio or Wynn or Venetian...but take your chequebook.

Best Place to get cheap drinks? The only way to accomplish this is to gamble. Drinks are free while you're playing...tip at least $1 per drink if you want the service to keep up, though.

Best Nightclubs? Go to the Hard Rock Hotel off the strip...that's where the party is at.

Best Buffets? Hands down the best quality is at the Bellagio. If you want a cheaper, but still tasty buffet, the Golden Nugget off the strip is a good bet.

Anything else you think I should know? Check out this site...it's very valuable: http://www.cheapovegas.com/

Learn how to play pai-gow poker and craps.

If you can play these 2 games, you can drink for free all week in Vegas and spend nothing but tip money.

Craps gives the best odds of any casino game (something like 492:508... nearly 50/50). Pai-Gow Poker is great because you essentially play 7 card poker poker against a dealer with 2 hands... one is a 5 card hand, one is a 2 card hand.

If you each win one, it's a push and you get your bet back. If you win both, you win the wager. If you tie one of the hands, it counts as a dealer win. The odds for this aren't nearly as good as craps, but it blows the water out of blackjack. The minimum bet looks steep (some places it's around $25), but it's very hard to lose a lot. The downside is it is also harder to win alot, but you can place sidebets on things like 3 of a kind, fullhouse, etc (and for a lot cheaper than the minimum bet).

And you have to get a warp-core breach... ask around for it... it's a touch expensive, but it's one of the coolest drinks you'll ever see.

Just got back myself, Monte Carlo was just as the 1st poster advertised, low limit black jack not too busy. If you are a rookie at rollette they also have a video version, real wheel and spin and all you just do your bet at a video terminal. Not so much pressure and a good way to learn.

If you are into slots, down town is the way to go. Won big on the $5 machine.

Bar to avoid is Coyote Ugly in New York New York, crowded and nothing to do but gawk at the girls dancing on the bar which was not always a good thing. And the bartender is prone to spraying you with her little water hose if you don't tip enough.

If you are looking for some eats other then buffets, The Burger Bar in Mandelay Bay was awsome as was P.F. Changs in the Aladin. There was a line up there though but it was worth it.

If you are taking a lady friend with you send her to the premium outlet mall for the day to get her out of your hair, some cheap cheap stuff there.

Burger Bar

I agree the best burger I have ever had was at the Burger Bar in Mandalay Bay!!! Off the strip is always the cheapest but not nearly as much fun. Bring a good pair of shoes cause everything looks close but nothing is close if you are walking the strip. Belagio by far has one of the best buffets, but it isnt cheap at all. If you want to eat cheap on the strip and get a decent meal, you have to eat really late/early depending on how you look at it or go to Outback Steakhouse where the prices arent really inflated.

I just got back after a week of partying with my friends

Cheap drinks if you aren't gambling: Casino Royale on the strip has $1 Michelob's...and there are some cheap restaurants next door like Subway, Panda Express, Chipotle (so good!), Outback, Dennys..etc...
The great thing about vegas is you can drink everywhere you can bring your own drink into restaurants, malls, the street, other casinos...it rules

Also if you are doing some partying, its not a bad to get beers at a variety store. There is one on a side street off the strip beside Rio...at the store the beers are less than $1 each.

I found that most night clubs have like a 3:1 guy to girl ratio and most of the girls are with guys anyways, so I didn't spend all that much time at the clubs. Plus drinks tend to start at $7 and most cost over $10, so I had a better time getting drinks for $1 at the sports betting lounges and watching 3 games at once.

I stayed at Treasure Island and it was a solid place to gamble. Dining was OK, but I really prefer spending like $6 at Chipotle instead of like $20 at a sit down restaurant and putting the rest on the Leafs to lose.

The sports betting lounges are sweet. Not a rip off like Pro-Line in Canada, you can bet on individual games, and on various things. Ie. Will Manning throw a touchdown before an interception...each thing has odds. I came home about $50 up in sports betting...most of my bets were on hockey games. And if you bet enough they will serve you the whole time and u can sit and watch the games - Hieneken for a $1 tip...same with Red Bull...Coffee..everything it was awesome.

There really is two ends to the strip...the end with MGM and NY NY, Luxor, etc...and the end with TI, Wynn, Venetian...I spent most of my time at the TI end. I'd recommend spending a bit of time at the "old school Vegas" like Frontier, Circus Circus etc..lots of fun.

One fun thing to do when hammered: MGM and Frontier both have a "horse racing machine" that you put quarters into and pick based on the changing odds...soo much fun.

PM me if you want more info...one night when I was hammered I went to like every casino and put some money down on roulette in each...came home like $150 up (lost it the next day).

Best place to gamble? - Barbary coast, but I think it's gone

Best Place to get cheap drinks? - those days are over, gamble or pay through your nose.

Best Nightclubs? - Hard Rock

Best Buffets? - Mirage

Anything else you think I should know? - The Westward Ho Hotel used to be a great place but it shut down. The 99c Margaritas and the 3/4 pound mega dog at $1.49 was famous.

RIP fun place to go to.

Consider Freemont Street to get more of that 'old school' Vegas experience. Although ever since Binion's ownership changed hands, even that's getting glossy in exchange for nickle and diming you.

I just got back from Las Vegas a few weeks ago. It was my first trip there and I had the greatest time.

First thing I'd recommend doing is spending a day walking down the strip. Sounds like quite a hike, but there is so much to see and do along the way. Probably want to do that during the late afternoon/evening because you will be able to catch some outdoor shows at some of the casinos (Belagio has an outdoor water fountain show and Treasure Island does a pirate ship show). You can also buy booze on the strip and carry it around (bottle/cup/whatever) and you won't get a ticket.

If you're staying on the strip you should take a cab or a shuttle to old vegas (Fremont Street). You probably want to go at night time because there is about 4 blocks covered in a huge canopy full of lights and every night they have many light shows (all the casinos on the old strip shut their lights off for the light show, it's quite something to see). Everyone I was with had the best luck at the old casinos on Fremont Street for gambling too, so that was a bonus.

As far as buffets go, I'd totally recommend the Wynn or Luxor. The line ups are usually long at buffets (30-40 minutes sometimes), but worth the wait.

If you're interested in some Vegas shows, I'd recommend going to a little shop they have setup outside the big mall on the strip. The mall is across the street from the Wynn and it looks like there is a big UFO hovering over top of it. Right underneath the big UFO looking thing there is a shop that sells tickets for shows that aren't sold out (can be had for cheap, half price). Worth checking out if you have time to kill.

Fremont Street (notice the white canopy, that thing is filled with lights, pretty rad when the show begins).

The strip at night.

I'm forgeting so much, but I'll probably add more when I remember.

I cant believe no one has mentioned....
SPEARMINT RHINO!

Best place to go for a stag! Best peeler bar for sure.
There is at least 2 to 1 girls if not more. The $20 lap dances are great and you can get more if you pay more.

Good clubs are PURE, RAIN, but the drinks are crazy expensive. If you plan to get loaded you better drink lots before you head to the club or bring lots of cash.

My buddies and I grabbed some alcohol at duty free and brought it to the hotel.

I go to Vegas quite often and always stay at Golden Nugget. Food is of good quality and is cheaper than restraunts on the strip. Their new pool is simply amazing and the building is connected to Freemont Street where you can see their great shows.

When I went this summer we got a 60 oz....that's right a 60 oz. of Finlandia Vodka at a liquor store for 17 dollars. A double highball at Coyote Ugly (do not go there) was $16. Ridiculous. Definately pre-drink if you're going out and nurse em at the bars/clubs. RAIN is pretty cool, at the Rio. We also saw Seinfeld at Caesar's there...but that was rare fortune. The MGM is a pretty good place to gamble...and even a place like Excalibur isn't bad for a quite spot to lose some money.

I haven't been to vegas in about 14 years. That's where I went though. I remember there was a $3.00 all you can eat buffet. I don't think they have that anymore though.

Also I have to second the idea of playing craps. It is the best odds and a lot of ofun once you know how to play. Worth learning for sure.

You should make sure to do the rides on the stratosphere. I know not was most people have in mind when they go to Vegas, seriously though, if you don't crap your pants on those you never will.

Aside from that, I would say the best place to party is just the strip, gab a cold beer and just walk up and down the strip. Best way to meet people, and just have a good time.

Circus Circus is the biggest dump on the Strip...stay away at all costs.

Should be a good time.
Hit the "Comedy Stop"; it's at the Tropicana...$20 gets you in and a free drink...non-smoking show is at 8:00pm and smoking at 10:00pm.

Rainforest Cafe at the MGM is pretty decent food and an awesome atmosphere..little pricey though.
