If I were playing one game for the championship of the universe, this is one guy I would want on my team. I'd take him over many defensemen who were more skilled. This guy always came up big when it mattered, and in an important game you could always count on him to splatter the first opposing player who came his way. Quite a contrast to some of our D now. Beuk and Leetch: the perfect defense pairing.

I loved Beukeboom, but if I'm playing one game for it all, I want Kevin Lowe on my team.

A vastly underrated player. There were some fans here who were trying to tell me that Aaron Ward was a better player than Beuk. Very surprising.

Beuk had the physical element. But was very smart and was a very good skater for someone his size.

Honestly, in "Rangerland", Jeff Beukeboom is a vastly Over-rated player.

I'm not being the proverbial wet blanket on the subject. I love Jeff and the element he brought.

What was really something special was the Leetch-Beuk pairing dynamic. In many years of searching, coaches/GMs of the Rangers have been unable to recreate the magic of that physical stay-at-home with a ranging, effective, offensive defensemen.

But thinking of Beukeboom and seeing a defensemen like Marek Malik with the same physical dimensions makes a tear come to my eye.

I wonder if Malik was canadien if he would still be that soft he just looks like he dont care.

I feel as though the Rangers still haven't replaced Beuk. Great Ranger.

That's probably because they haven't.

yes, yes, and yes, one of my favorite Rangers ever. Sad thing is there is no reason why Malik cannot play more like him. I posted before they are the same height, and weight, and Malik truly smashed someone last game behind the net, proving he's got it in him. I'm not saying he's always got to go for the big hit - In fact I'd rather he didn't, but a timely hit would be nice, and clearing the crease wouldn't hurt either.

P.S I'd rather see him take a cross checking penalty in the crease, than a stupid lazy hook penalty. At least the former sends a message.

Watching the '94 Cup Finals, Beukeboom was hands down my favourite player on the Rangers. He was just a beast out there.
