SI Article - SKILL BY SKILL: The NHL's best netminders by strengths and style
pretty interesting article...but this is of course my fav part
Best footwork and crease coverage: Cristobal Huet, Canadiens
Huet has had an astonishing run of consistent play since joining the Habs last March. Much of that has to do with his outstanding pivot-push technique in the crease. His leg-recovery mechanics are flawless and a point of emphasis in working with former NHL netminder/Canadiens assistant Rollie Melanson. Huet's precision in the paint means he gets to pucks quickly and is perfectly poised for rebound attempts.
no worries...its actually refreshing to see some media outlets/reporters do recognize what Huet has done and how good he actually is. He has to be one of the most, if not THE most underrated goalie in the NHL...IMO
But this guy doesn't - his analysis is weak. That to me is a "Hey, do a goalie ranking thing and make it interesting..." article.
Cam Ward...the Edge!? geesh. If edge means plainly "demeanor is not affected by the puck going in his net" then ok...Tim Cheveldae must be the KING of this category then. Average goalie that doesn't mind letting in a goal or two.
If one of the categories is MASTER...at least put Hasek as the Honorable Mention. geesh that is low...
Go Huet. he is quite underrated at this point. Give him a few more seasons of this type of play and he'll get his due.
It was pretty interesting also during the Skill Competion when they had the "In The Zone" drill...and it was Huet's turn...the commentators couldnt stop talking about how he is so good laterally and how he is one of the best goalies in the league in going post to post!
