Trade Rumour (MTL-PHI)

To PHI:
- G David Aebischer (8-7-2) 2.89/.910
- LW Sergei Samsonov (7-13-20) -2/48 GP
- D Craig Rivet (6-8-14) -8/48 GP

To MTL:
- G Robert Esche (5-7-0) 4.41/.869
- D Joni Pitkanen (1-23-24) -23/43 GP

Winner:
1. Philadelphia: They get a reliable goalie who could start for them.
2. David Aebicher: He gets out of a sure backup situation to become Philly's #1 goalie.
3. Sergei Samsonov: He gets away from the French Media and gets a fresh start.
4. Craig Rivet: He will have a higher defensive role in a team that wants and needs him.

Neutral:
1. Joni Pitkanen: The situation doesn't change and the French Media comes in.
2.Montreal: They give up players they do not want or even need to get some other ones in return.

Loser:

1. Robert Esche: He would leave a team in wich he could of became the starting goalie to go to a team who has a clear #1.

That's a rumour from a Montreal homer. Plain and simple.

Reporter: Do you think Pitkanen is a good player?
Gainey: Of course. He's a terrific young defenseman who any coach would love to have on their team.

Reporter: Do you think Samsonov is a good player?
Holmgren: He's having a bit of an off year, but he is definitely one of the most skilled forwards in the league.

Reporters: That will be all. I'll take it from here.

Holmgren: Wait, what?

I might have to rate that trade worse than the York trade and we all know how well that one worked out.

if the Flyers made that trade, Holmgren and Snider should hold hands and jump from the top of the Wachovia Center.

This is pretty close to the worst proposal I have ever seen.

So ..... I'm assuming if I close this, no one will be terribly upset - because I think everyone agrees the proposal was worthless.

The only guy Montreal wants is Forsberg. And it would be as rental for the playoffs. So it would have to be prospects and young players involved. Definitly not in the Higgins-Ryder range since it's too much for having a guy just for the playoffs.

*sniff sniff*

Smells like ******** to me.

Maybe the Canadiens tried offering it, but no ****ing way would ANY GM ON THE PLANET accept that trade from a Flyers POV.
