Also guess that this open's up a roster spot for Forsberg too if a goalie gets sent down?

Great job Poile. Undid his biggest mistake this off season. By the way guys, Dubnyk will continue to suck unless he gets some serious goalie coaching and changes his style a bit to be more conservative. With Mitch Korn working with him, that is entirely possible though.

I don't think so. I think we'll see someone like Taylor Beck called up before Forsberg. Let Forsberg have some development time in Milwaukee. He'd be bounced around lines here / scratched.

Looks like we got that "do-over" on that horrendous contract. I don't care if we got anything back for that reason alone.

He'll be a lot better under your system. He has a few flaws, not fast laterally, and doesn't read high glove hand well. Players where starting to take advance of that regularly. He makes for that in his size and has quicker leg reflexes. I'll predict that he'll be in the .900-.910 range.

Wow, I wish we made this trade a few months ago, but I'm glad to get rid of that contract. Hendricks played with some energy but god Poile paid him too much, I'm glad he realized his mistake.

Love this move-

Got an immediate need
Only signed for half a season
Dumped a bad contract (only a few months after it was signed...LOL)
Opened up a spot for Forsberg or whoever.
Got rid of a redundant player.

Great trade.

Thank you for the info on him, I'll be watching for that.

We already had an open roster spot; we were only carrying 13 forwards. If we send a goalie down, we can call up two forwards, possibly Beck in addition to Forsberg.

I'm more than fine with this!! However, I bet Rinne is done for the season which is ok too. Let him heal completely.

It doesn't really look like Oiler fans are too pleased at this point. I think they know they've been twerked upon, unless there is more going on than just this deal. http://www.coppernblue.com/2014/1/15...matt-hendricks

Hopefully this means we roll:

Wilson-Fisher-Forsberg
Stalberg-Legwand-Smith
Bourque-Cullen-Hornqvist
Nystrom-Goose-Spaling
Clune

Heard an interview with Mactavish on the NHL Network radio show this morning. He said he believes the Oil have an abundance of skill players but now he needs to "round out" the roster with role players. You know, Grinders. Wow, he got his Grinder from the University of Grinders, Smashville Campus.

I think it's a good deal for you guys. get a more proven backup to fill in while Rinne keeps healing. Dubnyk will be better in NSH's system than EDM

The Oilers do need those players. Hendricks isn't a *bad* player for them. Every roster needs to use scorers and grinders and use them in the right way. We're the opposite of the Oilers in a few regards. We need to round out our roster with some top 3 offensive weapons. Hendricks was redundant here but should help out the Oilers in grit which is something they do lack. We did not and still do not after this trade.

When I got the notice that the Preds traded Hendricks for Dubnyk I wondered what they added but then I saw it was a straight up, I first pumped like I was in a you tube video playing 'I am a real American' in the background. When I saw the contracts the Oilers are EATTING half the salary I crapped my underware

This is a home run for Poile. He fixes one of the mistakes from this past offseason that would have stuck around for years and gets a servicable NHL goalie with half his salary paid by the other team in return. Mitch can make any goalie better so I am super happy about this move. Hopefully there are more moves on the way that will help down the road.

This is really Poile correcting two off season mistakes: Hendricks and Hutton.

Wow- what a steal of a trade.

I am just trying to figure out why in the world Edmonton would do this deal- makes absolutely no sense on their end..........

Oiler fan here. Here is what you are getting with Dubnyk. He has been quite bad this year other than a few good games. Last year he was quite good overall. He cannot carry the load for any length of time, he always performed best as the guy challenging for playing time but each time he played well enough to be thought of as a #1 has fizzled.

Overall it's tough to evaluate tenders in Edmonton because the defense and forward defensive play is atrocious Most games.
