In the middle of the season? How many do you think were available at reasonable cost, exactly? NHL starters, mind you, not a 'UFA career backup goalie' as you put it? What do you think MacT would have ended up paying? You're suggesting all these other great goalie options, so go ahead -- play GM, and suggest something. Don't just talk. Enlighten everyone else with what you would have done.

Over the course of the last 7 months, MacT:

- Tried trading for Bernier and Schneider
- Went after Raanta, the top UFA goalie out of Europe
- Traded down in the 2nd once Fucale was taken
- Signed Backman and Labarbera early in free agency
- Traded Smid+ for Brossoit+
- Signed Pickard
- Signed Bryzgalov
- Traded Labarbera to Chicago
- Traded Dubnyk
- Traded for Scrivens

That's got to be some kind of record.
We surprisingly no better off. Might as well change the goalie coach as well.

Scrivens for Dubnyk isnt a wash in EDM.. The players might actually play with confidence in front of Scrivens... In front of Dubey a wrister from red line would make the Oilers guess ..

Hendricks is the kind of player EDM needs.. He brings a lot of what this team lacks.
Even with that contract he is a welcome addition.

Ranford seems to do well with coaching goalies.

I'm actually about 10x more excited about Scrivens coming here after some time with Ranford and the Kings than I would be if he was coming straight from TO.

He's worked on his mechanics and should have some confidence from his time with the Kings, so this could turn out well.

And if not, maybe it just makes it all the more clear that our terrible, terrible defensive corps is as much, if not more to blame.

laughable that people think a 3rd rounder holds so much value.

Well the Oilers do have the same number of Olympians on the blue line as the Kings

Pickard was AHL wasn't he?

Either way at least we can't say he isn't trying to fix mistakes. Sometimes you can only make the small move, but at least he's trying.

This - the Oilers improved today on paper and the addition by subtraction aspect re: Dubnyk is just thick creamy icing. My god - had Labarbera not been on this team I could legitimately say that I've never seen a worse "NHL" goaltender.

Today is a good day.

The saddest part about this?

We have so much riding on our 3rd rounders from 2013 and 2012.

Anybody LA puts in net would look like an allstar. - Even Dubnyk. It's a good gamble but Scrivens is still unproven. We need Defense - not goalies 2A and 2B... But at least it's something.

hmm... maybe pony up a lot more and go after a Gibson \ the other goalie in LA Jones?\Khudobin\ Jake Allen or even Reimer.
Goalies like these are stuck behind elite goalies but could be future stars.

After this season we would be back to square 1 ... no goalies signed.. and the hunt will continue..

All MacT needed to do was wait a day or 2 and see if a GM offers a starting goalie knowing we just traded away one and need to fill that hole.

Ask Toronto fans. I know Dubnyk has been awful, but I wouldn't celebrate untill you have seen Scrivens behind your D and not just perform in Kings.

Interview with Scrivens

Reporter: So you're going to Edmonton, how do you feel?

Scrivens: It will give me opportunity to become a number 1, I think it'll be great!

Reporter: How do you feel about teaming up with your former coach, Dallas Eakins?

Scrivens: Ah, ****.
