Simple question. Personal opinion and yes matter of perceptions.

IMO, overrated by our fanbase.

Reason ?

I don't think the Emelin - Markov pairing have been great, and he should be the driver of the two. The weight of the success, or not, of that pairing is on his back.

Still a good #2 or even a #1 on a mediocre defense, but is aging and seems to be inconsistent from games where he totally dominates (vs Chicago), and games where he's totally invisible like vs Ottawa.

IMO they should re-unite Subban and Markov and play them closer to 30 mins a night.

He was great versus Ottawa. Problem is Emelin is on his off-side, it doesn't help them at all. I'd rather play Gorges (who can play both sides effectively) with Emelin and reunite Markov and Subban.

Our fanbase overrates him and always has. Outside of these forums, he's been seen as a very good tier two blueliner and that's what he is. I won't vote in the poll here because... not sure if you're asking about Montreal or everywhere else.

Just put him back with Subban and marvel at his greatness. We would score a lot more 5v5 goals IMO.

I'll say under just because he isn't overrated. Not really either though

Let's be honest. We like to go back and forth with the perception of most of our players. In the case of Markov he's sometimes overrated and sometimes underrated. At this moment, he's underrated by us. The fact some think it's a good time to trade him because we'll get a pick and/or prospect should say enough. Markov isn't a #1 D anymore but regardless if he's a 2,3 or 4 he's still our 2nd best defenseman. I don't see a particular D-man on the UFA market who'd be better than him.

I think he is underestimated but this is a tough one.

Keeping him would be nice if we were cup contenders but the ultimate best option here is to trade him for futures at the deadline to one.

I'm not sure what his actual rating is so I can't say.
