Semi-Annual Prospect Poll: #15 NYR Prospect

C Adam Tambellini won a close one this round (but I don't want to do a tie-breaker this late in the game) and MacKenzie Skapski becomes the second goalie to make it into this poll.

Please write who you want added to the poll, and give a reason for it. This makes the discussion here more lively.

WHO IS A PROSPECT: http://www.hockeysfuture.com/whatmakesaprospect

HOW TO RANK PROSPECTS: Based on their value in a hypothetical trade or waiver draft. This takes into consideration a prospect's ceiling, how close he's to making it, his health, work ethic, the whole deal. Imagine there was a prospect waiver draft and you could keep only one prospect. That guy is our #1 prospect. Then imagine we had one more waiver protection. That guy is our #2 prospect.

Let's go with St. Croix this round. He's the ultimate "project" - a kid with tremendous potential, but also a huge risk. His potential is too high to leave him off from the list this late.

Add Tommy Hughes. Nobody's talking about him, but he's a decent AHL defenseman at the age of 21. He should certainly be on our list right now.

If St. Croix does not find another gear, he is a bust. Should find Barbara Underhill this Summer and Train with her.

Underhill is the great white hope for all players who are struggling as far as HF is concerned.

Yes, if he doesn't learn to play faster, he'll spend another year in the ECHL and then the rest of his career in the AHL. But, on the other hand, if he learns to skate better and take advantage of his opponents in the pros the way he did in juniors, St. Croix has very real potential to be very good. At this point, I think he's worth adding.

Skapski. Add Hughes.

I don't think St. Croix has tremendous upside. Again, how many guys spend any significant time in the ECHL at age 20/21 and then go on to successful NHL careers? The list is extremely small, if it even exists.

We all know he's VERY likely to go bust. But consider what's on the board:

Yogan: 4th line potential
Kantor: 4th line potential
Anderson: not even doing well in Sweden
Graves also likely has no more than 3rd pair potential
Skapski isn't even outplaying Hoflin, who's undrafted. I don't see him as anything more than a potential backup, but hopefully I'm wrong.

St. Croix may have the biggest bust probability of them all (or maybe not), but he has by far the highest potential. If he makes it, he's a difference-maker.

By the way, Zuccarello at the same age was playing in Norway (worse than the ECHL) and had only 1 point in 7 games in the WJC. It's not the same since he's Norwegian himself, but most people had a lot of doubt at the time that he can play in Sweden.

I wouldn't bet two cents that MSC makes the NHL, but if he does, he'll make more impact than Kantor or Yogan will.

Fair enough.

Alex Burrows, David Desharnais and a few others also became decent players after spending time in the ECHL.

We need to add bourque. His potential is about the same as the other 4th line guys, but he is small so I'm feel he is getting overlooked. He could be like Stephen Gionta. Production uptick this year in the AHL too. 23. Still has time.
