At least those teams would get 1-1/2 seasons of a d-man + for their UFA's to be.
mediocrity like the Stanley Cup finals?

It depends on how it was done.

It seems like everyone assumes that the only way for Smith not to be captain is that he would have to be stripped of the "C" kicking and screaming.

That is not the only scenario, as I mentioned in another thread Fogolin handed the "C" to Gretzky because he was their Franchise player.

I submit that Ryan Smyth is Mr. Franchise right now (no I am saying he is as good as Gretzky) but if he signs a long term deal and finishes his career in Edmonton he will be the only player in Oiler history to do so and that is significant.

Smith may have approached Lowe and said if he signs a long-term deal I think he should be named team captain and in that scenario I would be willing to accept Ryan Smyth without trading Smith.

In the other scenario I would be also against stripping Smith of his captaincy.

I will abstain from voting because it would depend on how it was done.

You mean the guy who said the NHLPA allowance during the lockout wasn't enough to feed his dog?

This guy has ego written all over him. I suspect that's why Hatcher wore the C and why MM didn't keep it long.

How much class have we ever really heard out of Modano? Really...

And Modano was publically upset by the situation. It's wrong.
