There is a lot of negativity going around, myself very deeply included, about this team and this season right now. I had an idea to ask what the season will hold when we return from the CBA's resolution, whenever that may be.
Who do you think will be the coach of the Coyotes, Bobby Francis, Pat Conacher, Marty McSorely, or someone else?
Who do you think will still be on the team? Will they cut loose or trade players like Burke, Savage, Gratton, Sillinger, Hulse?
Who do you think will make the team? Will Sjostrom, Spiller, Taffe, Lenny, Kolanos be NHL players?
Do you think we'll even have a team that survived to worry about?
Whatever you can think of, what do we return to post-CBA War?
If you look at our payroll we are already sitting fairly good with some expensive contracts set to expire in the next couple of years that we will be able to walk away from (Savage, Burke, Nash, Sillinger, Gratton). If anything we will be able to pick something up at a discounted rate.
Kolanos, Taffe, Sjostrom, Spiller should be expected to make this team. We may run a risk of losing Doan, Langkow, Johnson, Hrdina, Gratton, Sillinger, Savage, etc to unrestricted free agency as they will likely lower the age of unrestricted free agents to 27/28 years of age. However, the big spending teams won't have the payroll room to add salary and will likely be too focused to do much damage; although the future of Shane Doan looms large. I anticipate Phoenix will lock him up on a long-term agreement.
Keep in mind the union is offering up a straight across the board salary cut which would also provide Phoenix some more breathing room.
Francis is the coach until Phoenix fails to meet expectation. we didn't have much for expectation this season but that has changed at the halfway point. beyond this season though he will fall under closer scrutiny.
