Rick Nash

I think the guy deserves his own thread now. I think that's 7 goals in the last 8. He's now on an approximately 34 goal pace in 82 games. Assists are still low. So he's still on pace for 55 points which is not good for a player of his caliber and with his contract. But he's trending up and so has our play in large part because of it.

Ever since being named to team canada things just seam to be clicking.... Maybe that's what jump started his offensive game, regardless it's nice to have him back to being a threat out there and pulling his weight.

He's actually still not playing at his caliber. That's the scary part. I'd like for him to have a legit center though. Sorry stepan ain't doing it. What brass and zucc have is what nash needs.

Eh, lets not go crazy, hes got 7 goals in 8 games, we cant say hes not playing at his caliber and expect him to be about to be scoring 12 goals in 8 games.

He is playing fantastic, he is playing RICK NASH hockey

Here's an interesting article on Nash and Kreider's impact on his line:

Yawn. Wake me up when he scores more than one goal in one playoff run.

What does Brass have? It's not 2013 anymore.

If it weren't for Torts he'd score 0 goals.

Dude had one bad playoff run it happens. Datsyuk was considered a bad playoff player for a while.

The way brass and zucc communicate and actually you know, get tape to tape passes to each other. offensive creativity, good forecheck overall to creatve offense. Meanwhile in stepan land....Flubbed passes, lazy forecheck (until the last 2 or 3 games), no creativity in his game and so on. I'm not saying you put brass with nash and it becomes gold, I'm saying what brass and zucc have as a combination is what nash needs with SOMEONE and it's not stepan.

Why am I the only person who thought the Zucc/Brass/Nash combo sucked last year?

Not in the minority, I hated it too.

I've defended Nash a lot, but you know what, I don't even think he has been impressive the last 8. Quite mediocre in relation to his best stints last season for example, when he really lead the way during quite long stints.

But I don't know, I don't quite get what the point or purpose is with really scrutinize Nash like we are doing. We just cannot keep failing with every single direction we ever tries to go in. You know, we failed with the top picks in the draft approch, Brendl, Lundmark and Malhotra, next to the goalies, all failed. I wouldn't say that the Renney-crew failed, but we abandoned them after a few years. The Gomez, Drury, Redden crew failed in epic proportions. Gabby was frustrating. And so forth and so forth and so forth.

Ok, so Nash isn't going to step in and become a top 10 franchise player for us. What do we do about it? Nash isn't Kovalchuk, but Kovalchuk got like 65 pts for NJ and was a healthy scratch a few times for them, everyone tore him apart completely after his full year. Who was suprised when NJ got him to work the year after that? To some extent you make your own bed.

The "Wake me up when he scores more than one goal in one playoff run"-approach is kind of childish and annoying.

Nash is on pace for 27 goals in 65 games.

He had 21 in 44 games last season. Nash missed 4 games with the concussion. 36 goals pro-rated over a full season.

The lack of passing between them is more on Nash than on Stepan. Nash would rather try to stickhandle through 3 defenders rather than pass the puck. He's got great hands and is a great scorer, but he isn't particularly strong on the boards and he turns the puck over way too much.

He's finally going to the net and shooting but he doesn't help anyone else on his line. He should be looking for someone to pass off to whenever he skates himself into a clutch of defenders. I'm sure someone on the coaching staff has noticed this.

I feel like Kreider has kind of leveled off since Nash got hot. It would be great if they were both threats at the same time.

No, and who would've thought...

I really like Nash and I wouldn't take back that trade at all. It's still smart of us to consolidate our 2nd/3rd line grinders in Anisimov and Dubinksi into a first line, 30-35 goal scoring player, even if Nash is not the 40+ goal scorer we thought he'd be (though technically he was on pace for that last year, or damn close to it).

But Nash is a bit of a drifter and doesn't seem to be a #1 offensive catalyst. He puts the puck in the net, but he disappears for other times instead of getting consistent pressure.

IMO he's an elite second scorer. Still need a true #1 offensive player here, but Nash is a great #2, one of the best in the league. Of course... when we traded for him, we thought we had Marian Gaborik as well, and him and Nash could have been what we needed.

Just looked it up: Since 1/6 Nash has 7 goals and Kreider has 1. Interesting. Fyi.

We should've fired Torts mid-season after he coached that beast of a lineup to utter mediocrity. Then you don't have a Gaborik trade, you can bring AV in over the offseason, and now AV has this lineup to implement his style with...

Zuccarello - Richards - Gaborik
Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Miller - Callahan
Boyle - Moore - goon

OK so in a lockout-shortened 48 game season we should have fired Torts mid season - which means 24 games after leading us to the Eastern Conference finals, and two games from the Stanley Cup finals. Sure, makes perfect sense.

The 20/20 hindsight on this board it truly amazing.
