According to capgeek, we have ~$4.6M in cap space right now and we'll have ~$9.2M at the trade deadline. Trade deadline blockbuster for Ovechkin?

How much cap was actually saved by sending Beaulieu down for ~18 hours?

He only makes $925,000, so I don't think they saved much.

So I'm guessing this was just paper work, right? Beau travelled with the team to Montreal rather than hang around in T.O just to end up in Montreal anyway.

Good for Beaulieu. I don't care about the yo-yo, we have plenty of days left to practice until our next game.

Beaulieu deserves another start. If possible, alongside Murray and, on occasion, paired with Subban.

Well, weirdness of the yoyo move aside, I'm glad he's up again. I assume this means he'll play again on wednesday. He showed a lot in the Toronto game. Not just puck carrying and speed(which really stood out to me, he is smooth as hell), but he didn't look soft at all, which is a big plus over cube and Diaz, and if he can even be decently physical he can replace Murray and give us a solid PP2 pairing with Diaz (with cube also scratched as well.)

Gorges-Subban
Markov-Emelin
Beaulieu-Diaz
Murray-Cube

Not too bad size wise and we can really move the puck. One of the big factors in our success last year was offense from our Dmen. Beaulieu could really make a difference.

But of course I shouldn't get too ahead of myself, watch Diaz get over his flu and Beaulieu get sent back down

It was also that since they were in Toronto and Hamilton was not far away that he didn't have very far to go to report. Partially cap management but also a matter of convenience.

Happy for the guy, he looked pretty solid during the laffs game, deffinetly deserves an other shot. I would try these combos:

Markov - Subban
Gorges - Beaulieu
Emelin - Diaz

Markov's been struggling so Subban should be able to cover his mistakes and Emelin finally gets to play on the left side.

Those defensive pairings actually seem not too shabby. Shame we won't see them though.

Or possibly a trade where we have to retain some salary? Maybe a team would take a risk on Briere if he only counted 2 million against their cap for next year?

Pairings

I was all for splitting up Markov and Subban but it doesn't seem to have worked. Talking heads who don't like Subban (most of them) claimed Markov was carrying Subban in that pairing but not surprisingly it looks like Markov is getting a little old to carry his partner. It looks like that partnership actually had synergy/chemistry, though. Might be time to try it again and see if one other combination can work well.

Eyes on the Prize writers have argued that Bouillon and especially Murray are bottom 10 in the league (out of 560 D-men or so) based on advanced stats. Emelin is having a rough time at the moment. Putting Subban back with Markov, Emelin on his good side, and filling out with Gorges, Diaz, and Beaulieu would be the first thing to try. Possibly splitting Emelin and Gorges and also Diaz and Beaulieu to get a mix of skills.

No idea about sides:

Subban-Markov
Gorges-Emelin
Diaz-Beaulieu

And bench Parros... If you have to dress him zero shifts unless he fights. He was having a tough time before his concussions, and the concussions won't make him play better.

On the other hand I'm happy with playing .500 until about 10 games before the playoffs as long as they make it in. Tune up just before the playoffs and finish strong. Coasting to a top seed for the last month just gives you a tough matchup with a hot team that just fought its way in while dropping your draft pick.

Lol what do we save, like $6-7,000 on the cap? We're not going to end up spending up to the cap so what's the point in even doing this.

The worst part is you stiff the players that need the money the most and also happen to be the players you should care about most. Who cares if Bourque's feeling are hurt but why be chintzy to Beaulieu, it's just stupid, especially with us being this far from the cap ceiling.

The team has to reward the players in Hamilton with callups, when their play is deserving, it keeps every player hungry and trying their hardest to succeed as well. All of the Bulldog players are aware of Nathan's good fortune and why, believe Dat!

We have decent D but just not the right mix. The D should complement the forward much better and that hasn't happen. This team lacks puck control/support in transition.

Since November when MT decided everyone should dump and chase. The team looked bad, advanced stats took a dive, and they won 10 straight. Sigh. Let Subban play, let the team play their game, and keep Beaulieu.

The imminent signings of our 2014 UFA's sounds very promising knowing the Habs have that much Cap Space.

When Beaulieu and Tinordi are both regulars in the Habs lineup, our defence will be outstanding in Montreal and Hamilton. A situation not seen since the early 70s when the Nova Scotia Voyageurs were the Habs farm team, with Larry Robinson as a Voyageur. The Habs depth in Hamilton will be a source of pride within two years IMHO. The sign of an "Elite" team is an elite farm team as well.

I certainly hope so, and it's possible if Beaulieu makes the effort and Tinordi puts on some weight.

Conceivable that Pateryn makes it. Dietz and Ellis could be interesting as well. Nygren may not have peaked yet.

Logjams are a good thing, and Hamilton should have some good years.

Switch Beaulieu and Gorges. How come Gorges is not playing on the right side anymore ? Is it written in his contract. ?
