Got Offense?

Wow, another dazzling one goal performance. Lets put the defense and goaltending aside for now to discuss this teams lack of scoring. Once again Boyes and Sturm missfire on golden opportunities. The "energy line" isn't going to generate any offense. Kessel hits a post.

Why not call of Versteeg or someone else from P-town?
No, we're sticking with the guys we have.
Ya, it seems to be working out for ya.
Boyes couldn't hit an empty net from three feet away.

Say what you will about Thomas' mental lapse and Chistov falling down in the corner like a little (expletive) which led to another goal, you aren't going to win very many games scoring one damn goal.

See it's the only way to win Hockey games. You play your energy line 20 minutes a night, and you play a defensive game. 1 Forechecker, 4 lined up on the blue line. Now here's the tricky point, you don't take the body, instead you let the other team carry the zone. Then you collapse into the shooting lanes and hope to get hit by the puck. Occasionally 1 forward goes and puts pressure on the other teams puck carrier. If he manages to steal the puck, they carry it to center... dump it into the corner and change the line. Setup and do it all again.

Can we just take a step back right now and have a round of applause for Brad Boyes?!?!?!?? How he has been able to not register a single point in 14 straight games is astonishing. I mean you have to actually TRY to not get points in that many games. Even a deflection off your stick can get you a second assist.

Many the bigger issue is that Lewis has preached defense and this team plays scared to make a mistake. You only can get caught in the opponents zone when your pressing and this team doesn't press. So, instead of giving heck to the top offensive lines, maybe we need to address the real issue is that Lewis's system does not allow this team to develop offense 5 on 5.
If the defense was strong and the forwards backchecked then they could press a lot more.
Other issues: P.J. does not belong on the top two lines
Murray can shoot and that's about it. He is not grat at backchecking.
Boyes, Chistov, Sturm and Kessel are not strong on the puck.
Kessel and Chistov do show the most hussel along with Bergy and Savard.

He has been awful ... would you be opposed to seeing them move him before the deadline?

Yeah, I think the kid is just in some mental funk- it isn't a lack of talent. Keep him. It will pan out. But 14 games is kind of embarrassing.

I'm sure nobody feels worse than Brad himself. I'm glad to see Lewis mixing it up to try to get him going.

He had shifts with Bergeron/Sturm and Savard/Murray last night.

Give the man a cigar!!! Scoring 1-2 goals a game ain't gonna cut it in the New NHL™.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who notices this stuff - I can remember games where they are a goal or 2 down at the end of the first or 2nd period and they start a rush with 20 something seconds to go and they get to the blueline and dump it in. Regardless of how long your shift has been - if you can't muster 20 more seconds or effort in the offensive zone, when down a goal - something is wrong.
