Blake??

Hmmm, I'm not sure about this one. He can still play, (LA is a huge pit of dysfunction, so don't worry about the stats), but what about the cost, both in terms of trade bait and salary. I'm still on the Stuart bandwagon, if it can be swung.

Blake costs too much for what he brings. Especially since he's signed through next year.

Rob Blake circa 2001? sure

Rob Blake 2007? 6m /yr, for his age and what he's got left, no thanks.

We're better served to get a band-aid d-man this year, and spend that 6 m on 2 d-men this summer.

If we could pick up Blake for the balance of the season and then have a back door deal to send him elsewhere( back to LA?) at seasons end then put me down for a big YES. If we would be keeping him for next season then I believe he limits KLowe in fixing our D situation long term so I would pass

Agreed, that would either force Smyth to become a UFA or really limit our ability to do anything whatsoever in the UFA market this summer

I like it he would really help settle our kids down and probably be a great teacher as well and only one more year wouldn't hurt that bad.

Lombardi already dismissed this rumor.

"You can look at the contract situations and figure it out pretty well," Lombardi said.

That would move Brent Sopel, Sean Avery and perhaps Aaron Miller, all potential free agents, to the top of the list, but Lombardi said it's against the nature of his job to declare any player as "untouchable."

"If Wayne Gretzky can be traded, anybody can be traded," Lombardi said. "If I traded a younger player for an older player, it wouldn't fit with my overall plan so it would have to be pretty special."

They gave Blake a 6 m deal per year.

It makes Lowe and any overpay on Pisani or Horcoff look like they are bargains.

I would not touch Blake at that price.

Bruce Dowbiggen on Fan960 in Calgary mentioned the Blake rumour yesterday when talking about Calgary's upcoming game against LA.

I was going to post it but it sounded kind of ridiculous.
