This is true.

The only thing that disappoints me is not being able to keep Cano due to the luxury tax, but they went over it anyway for Tanaka. Why even bother with the tax cap in the first place then if the plan was to surpass it?
They would have signed Cano.. but not for 10 years.. 10 years was the breaking point.

yes good smart move here. good value potentially.

he can pitch and throws strikes. in citi, hes a good backend guy for sure.

i like whats happening so far but....

this wilmer flores thing is bothersome. the logjam of clowns at 1st base and potential move of the murph, which i am against, isnt making things easier.

this kid can rake and hes got a strong arm. to me, its a no brainer. bring him north and let him spell wright at 3rd and play some 2nd as well. his bat is too dangerous to not have on the roster. you dont have to be a gazelle to play 2nd or 3rd.

if he plays well and hits, let him get more starts even at 1st base.

hes a young .270/ 20 hr guy on a team that could sure use that kinda value/bat.

Term, not AAV, was the back-breaker.

You don't sign 30 year old players to 10-year deals. After A-Rod, never, ever, ever again.

Good deal but Yankees are still borderline

Need better infield to be certain of a playoff spot

what?

yanks were "borderline" last year, and theyve pretty much improved all across the board (with the exception of Cano)

They look pretty damn strong (on paper)

though if you have another injury destroyed season like last year, then who knows.

a LOT is riding on Tanakas shoulders..if he's a legit #2 the Yanks will be one of the best teams in all of baseball, if he's a 4 or 5, i think theyre a wildcard team.

pitchings my concern.

I agree, I'm hoping he's at least a #2.. not expecting a Darvish, but I'm hoping he's a 2.

Not that I wanted Tanaka, or Cano for that matter, but I'm glad the Yankees are at least acting like a team that plays in a big market.

Dolan drops wads on the Rangers and Knicks. Steinbrenners twice the amount on their team annually than Dolan does for the Rangers and Knicks combined. Prokerhov probably invested over a billion dollars on the Nets. Whoever the new owner of the Islanders is will likely bring them to the cap ceiling in just a year. The Jets and Giants are constantly at the cap ceiling, year in and out.

And the Mets are acting "responsibly"? I understand small market concepts and how they actually may hold more pertinence to fielding a winning team for a sustained period (if done correctly) but not being able to afford big time free agents in this market is unacceptable. It's unacceptable because of the price fans have to pay to get into the stadium.

The disparity can even be seen in hockey, where the Rangers cheapest seats are close to $60-70 and the Panthers cheapest seats are like $9, with promotion.

A competitive league is one that spends and makes money. Selig isn't acting in the best interest of the league by not forcing the Wilpon's out. He forced out the Dodgers owner a few years ago. They nearly immediately became relevant again with an influx of capital. We've laid the foundation, have the prospects that hopefully will get the team out of mediocrity, but we need owners that spend money.

Lower field tickets are like anywhere between $150-$300. What a joke.

10 year deal for a 40yo or a 7year deal (with a year4 opt-out) for a 25yo.

Yankees shot themselves in the foot here.

This isn't Darvish. Going to regret this signing.

F' Heyman. He sucks.
Tanaka's contract includes a player option out clause after the 4th year.

Young and Balfour to the Yankees for a total of $10-$12 million combined added this year's team payroll. 1 year deal for Young. 2 year deal to Balfour.

Wow. Tanaka bent the Yankees over and got everything he wanted out of them. If he sucks, he has guaranteed huge money. If he plays amazing, he opts out and gets more money. And he gets a NTC.

Wow.

The Yankees don't care about the money. If this guy is good he will make them a lot more.

Won't re-sign their gold glove/silver slugger 2b but they'll spend a billion dollars on an unproven pitcher from Japan.

Darvish was the awesome import and it was much more reasonable with respect to luxury tax but Cashman didn't do that...

We needed a pitcher alot more than we needed Cano.

They needed both. The infield blows. They didn't need a speedy center fielder nearly as much. I just find it ironic that peopler say Cano was asking for too much and then they shell out these contracts.

It's not the money though. This contract at most will bring Tanaka to 32 years old. Cano wanted a contract that would bring him to 41. Signing Cano to a deal like that would be like resigning Tanaka in 2021 to a 10 year deal.

As far as the infield goes we can deal Gardner for help there. We signed McCann and Cervelli, and now we're sitting on 3 young catchers in the minors doing nothing. There's a deal there too.
