I really cannot make a list. Basically most of the "core" player's on each team, are basically "untouchable"

So just maybe, list the core player's on the top ten teams

Not in any particular order.

Thornton is on every NHL GM's top 10 list. I guarantee that.

Seriously, you can spell "Bouwmeester" correctly but not "Forsberg"?

As for the topic. There is not a single player in the NHL that is untouchable. There are some that are so expensive that no one wants to trade for them though.

The ranking is meaningless, none of these guys are going anywhere unless their contract runs out. Well Forsberg may go back to Sweden but thats a different story. Im leaving Yzerman and Lemiuex out since they will retire within the next couple years.
1. Brodeur
2. Sundin
3. Kovalchuk
4. Luongo
5. Forsberg
6. Nash
7. Fleury
8. Thornton
I can't think of anyone else who I can't possible concieve getting dealt. If Berard can get traded so can Bouwmeester, especially if he doesn't put up numbers in his third and fourth year. Hossa isn't untouchable as long as Havlat and Alfredsson are on the Sens.

If you pluck out Sundin or Alfredsson from their respective teams, no matter what is coming back in return, im sure that would be pretty disruptive for the roster.

Both player's have strong, long roots in the team, and their absence would lead a real major "shake-up" in the locker room

From this point, I guess you can say that Sundin/Alfredsson and player's alike, are "untouchable"

But on then again, I thought Gilmour and Linden were "untouchable" aswell
I agree, but do you really think the Sens or Leafs are gonna fall off the face of the earth with Sundin or Alfredsson? They are fine players, but not the best. Not irreplacable. The 5 I mentioned are absolutely irreplacable to their franchises.

But however, if you did want to go by that logic, here would be my top 5:

#1 - Tomas Vokoun
#2 - Zigmund Palffy
#3 - Roberto Luongo
#4 - Ed Belfour
#5 - Chris Pronger

Without those players, their respetive teams either fall apart completely, or turn into pretenders or worse. Those are, in a way, MVP canidates too for those of you who still believe in 'Most important player to their particular team' as a reasoning to give out a Hart Trophy.

Here's my top ten (in no particular order):

1) Patrick Marleau
2) Roberto Luongo
3) Rick Nash
4) Rick Dipietro
5) Jay Bouwmeester
6) Ilya Kovalchuk
7) Shane Doan
8) Alexander Frolov
9) Eric Staal
10) Mark-Andre Fleury

I think any veteran player can be had for the right price, and there are enough questions about certain younger "stars" (like Gaborik) that they could be had as well.

#1 absolutely has to be Marty Turco...the Stars have Mike Smith, Bacashihua, or Dan Ellis backing him up...they are planning on having Turco start every game from here on.

That's my list, alot of big names arent on there, so if you think you need to make some changes, make your own list.
Pretty good list but I might replace Bouwmeester with Pronger and Neidermeyer with Thornton or Naslund.

I think the concept of "untouchable" refers to a player who's value is so high to a team that any return package could not equal him. I could easily see Turco being dealt with another goalie coming the other way.

I understand that...but I don't think there are other goalies except Brodeur who would relish playing 80 games in a season.

That's just crazy talk.. Turco is a top 5 netminder, and to be honest, unless its Luongo or Brodeur coming back, he's untouchable.

Definition of untouchable....hmmm tough one...I agree that when a plyer's value or importance to the team exceeds anything they could get back for him, he would be untouchable

Well guys that if I had I would not trade taking into consideration salary, age effectiveness include.....

15 forwards, 7 D, 3G

#1 Joe Thornton (no question)
#2 Dany Heatley (tough call due to health but he is the best young player in the game)
#3 Marian Hossa
#4 Ilya Kovalchuk
#5 Markus Naslund (leading the league in scoring people and far and away the most productive in the last four years)
#6 Rick Nash (will soon be top 3)
#7 Todd Bertuzzi (unmatched skill/size combo)
#8 Jason Spezza (I may be in the minority but all I see is franchise centre)
#9 Datsyuk (especially on that old team)
#10 Doan (another young PF on the list...anyone see a pattern?)
#11 Hejduk (best shot in the league and still young)
#12 Forsberg (you don't trade players like him, you let them retire)
#13 Sundin (Mr. Everything in TO, only in a rebuild would he be moved)
#14 Lehtinen (tough year but still the best defensive forward in hockey)
#15 Marleau (entire franchise on his shoulders now)

#1 Chara (weird choice I know but what a player)
#2 Blake (expensive but the best in the game right now)
#3 Redden (young and highly effective)
#4 Ohlund (by far the most underrated defenceman in the game)
#5 Niedermayer (see Forsberg)
#6 Aucoin (Norris trophy candidate this year)
#7 Pitkanen (best under 25 d asset)

#1 Brodeur (you don't trade the best in the game while he is still the best in the game)
#2 Luongo (you don't trade his heir apparent either)
#3 Theodore (best player in Montreal by considerable margin)

Wingers

Hossa
Brodeur
Kovalchuk
Gaborik
Nash

Naslund
Iginla
Smyth

Defensemen

Redden
Chara
Lidstrom
Jovanovski
Bouwmeester
Pitkanen

Goalies

I don't get it how one player can be more untouchable than another. Ie, what the difference between being the #1 untouchable player and being the #15 untouchable player. I mean, they're both untouchable, right?
