Wicked GDT on the Edmonton board. Not sure why I was there, but it was worth the trip.

Number 4: He's weak in the shootout.

This season he's participated in six shootouts, only three of which went the Avalanche's way - 50 percent. He has a .667 save percentage on shootouts so far. By contrast James Reimer has backstopped the Toronto Maple Leafs with a .727 save percentage to four wins - all four of the shootouts he's faced, incidentally. According to NHL statistics, 16 other goalies have better win records than Varlamov on the shootout, including back-up goalies like the Calgary Flames' Reto Berra.
Bwahahahahah

This is the most hilariously uneducated thing she could have said. Everyone knows he's money in the SO. He's just let in maybe one more than usual the last couple times, and the Avs shooters haven't been able to find the back of the net.

Looking at numbers with a sample size of 6 is just ********. A goalie could be deemed the worst in the league after one tough outing.

Quote:
Number 5: He's aloof in net.

Though you don't want a hot head in net, a little fire aimed at opponents would be nice. For instance, at the conclusion of the December 29 game, Jet Dustin Byfuglien shoved Varlamov's mask. Varlamov did nothing but scowl, despite the fact the game was lost and the Avs had, literally, nothing more to lose. Yet if one of his own defensemen appears to be screening him, he's been known to give the guy a mighty shove.
Is she just making this stuff up? He swung his stick at Byfuglien. If she knew Buff hit him, how did she not know he swung at him instantly? And if he's pushing his defenseman when they're screening him, it's to let them know they're backing up too far.

Quote:
Number 3: He's not a role model.

This has nothing to do with his alleged actions - the charges were dropped
Haha, sure it's not. That's why you decided to write an article titled "5 Reasons Why Semyon Varlamov is Overrated" in the middle of the best season of his career.

Man, that is one of the worst things (don't want to call it an article or story) I have read in a long time. Yahoo should feel shame for attaching their name to it.

I am not a gung-ho Varly supporter by any means and I think there are decent odds the Avs will regret a major long term contract with him....but the logic behind every point she tried to make is completely flawed.

If you think he does not have the mental ability/stability or the makeup to be a star goalie for the Avs, then say so...but here 5 points were all poorly aimed pot-shots that are completely wrong.

The only one which is even remotely to be concerned about is the role model bit, and not because he needs to be one, just that I do worry a bit about his long term mental stability, not in that he will go crazy but rather he could be a distraction to the team at some point if he really is a party guy who drinks too much....but then I am also pinning him with the "Russian" racist tag in my head while I do that, and I know it...so there is probably nothing to be concerned about. Plus, it is not like Roy was a picture of mental stability during his career either.
