This is the amount of time the Sharks have placed on the current team/core to win it all. Keep that in mind folks.

Patty goes from never eclipsing 60 points to averaging 75 points a season. He owes a big portion of that check to Thornton.

With that said, very good deals. Thornton is a 7.5+ UFA. Probably one year deals after these until they retire, also wouldn't surprise me if one or both leave after this contract if they don't make a SCF.

3-year deals are about all Joe Thornton signs. So I wouldn't necessarily say that. I think it's likely they do it with core in the next 3 years if it happens at all, but you have to think Patty and JT could end up being great 2nd or 3rd liners after this contract and they still might have a shot with them in the "core".

Like I said, I don't totally disagree with the sentiment, but I think you are reading a bit too much into the contract lengths.

Even if 3 1/2 years is all this core has left, whose to assume they won't sign, draft, trade well enough where a rebuild won't be necessary?

Marleau was making that jump before Thornton even showed up anyway. People like to forget that Marleau was about a point-per-game that season before Thornton showed up. Marleau was also about 26 and the rule changes truly benefited a player of Marleau's skills as well. It wasn't just Thornton that helped him is my point here. People like to give way too much credit for Marleau's improvement to Thornton rather than giving him the credit he deserves.

They just scored goals less than 2 minutes apart vs Min.

49 seconds to be exact.

in three years they will still have Couture, $$$, Burns, Hertl and Wingels along with the $13 million from the Jumbo/Marleau deals. I think they can find a way.

Technically, the last 3 year deal was the "window."

Plus, this it the new NHL. By eyeball, players are playing longer. Specifically, Thornton and Marleau do not look to be slowing down at all.
