2002 draft revisted

Thought this would be interesting. I remember a couple of years ago, most people would have chosen Nash. JV was especially critically of the Bouwmeester pick at the time.

So, 4 years on, who would you take out of the top 4? I won't include any other players from the draft, like Cam Ward who is just insanely overrated.

I'd personally chose Bouwmeester, because he is the best of them right now. Pitkanen is having a bad season, and whilst i have no doubt that he could well be as good as Bo, it is disappointing that he has regressed. Lehtonen is going to be a very good netminder, so i'd put him #2. Nash needs to become more consistent, though The Blue Jackets as a unit are in the same vicinity when it comes to talent as us.

Having Luongo in the fold in 2002, Lehtonen would have been nice but unnecessary.

Bouw is still by far the best choice of those 4 ..

Actually, it's an example - if you recall I pointed out the difficulties with what you were saying

In this 2002 draft almost no one from the last five rounds is in the big dance, so the Panthers' scouting wasn't any more problematic than any other team's.
They just have some notable foibles. Taticek, for instance.

In the summer of 02, defense was our biggest need. Choosing Bouw was the right choice and I'd make the same pick over again. I think Nash is going to be an extraordinary player, already is. He's already led the league in goal scoring once. But franchise defensemen are harder to find than 40-50 goal scorers.

Bouw is better than Pitkanen.
