Although DSP has sort of been lost in the shuffle of this season, he's one of the more notable guys whose contract is up, as he's an RFA at season's end. Do you think the Ducks tender him, extend him, or do something else?

As well, do you see him cracking the lineup before the end of this season?

Deal him in a package coming up before the trade deadline I think. Valuable prospect still and we aren't trading Etem or Rakkell. Seems like the logical choice.

Are we really going to have a player discussion thread for every player?

He'll get a qualifying offer. 1 year 2-way. He needs to have a good camp.

I don't think we'll have to tender a qualifying offer - he'll be signed to an extension before that. Otherwise there's no question we'd hand it to him. Really no reason not to. Trade is always an option, but no point in even speculating about it.

I think his future here might depend on whether Winnik is re-signed or not. I don't see him being dealt until the summer if at all.

He was very inconsistent few weeks/months ago in Norfolk, but seems like he has picked it up lately.

I think there's definitely a connection there. Although I don't think that DSP is out if Winnik resigns.

Also DSP shouldn't be traded unless there's a good deal. He has good potential and he was a bit rushed few seasons ago. His value isn't too high, maybe worth a 2nd rounder. Not that we should trade him for picks but he isn't going to be a major part of any trade and he shouldn't be included in any minor one.

I's rather play Devo next year than Winnik. While Winnik is a really good defensive forward, his offense is no existent and I get scared every time I see him handle the puck.

He has good puck control (like Maroon kinda) but he has no offensive moves and can't shoot for ****

I think he'll be re-signed and playing with the club next year.

He had 8 points in 16 games with the Ducks this season. He has some offensive potential. He is also 225 pounds. I see him getting Jackman's spot next year and playing a role similar to Maroon.

Doesn't matter if he has no offensive moves or can't shoot. He's our best defensive forward(outside of Getz). He has a specific skill set and Anaheim needs a player or two like Winnik...

Devo can't play Winnik's role right now.

If Penner moves on Palms or Maroon will be up with the twins... Plus Selanne, Koivu, Winnik, Jackman might all be gone also.

Well if he pulls what he has in the past and wants more money I am sure the Ducks won't overpay.

I don't see DSP as being particularly good on defense. So no, I don't see him being an unforced replacement for Winnik.

But like ducks nation said, Winnik might leave and we might not have much of a choice.

Are the people saying Winnik has no offensive moves not actually watching games? Winnik has a horrible shot, but he's had a number of extremely impressive passes to set up goals, frequently touch passes through traffic showing some pretty impressive vision.

Since BB wants to scratch him or play him at center on 4th because of his defensive game it's not rocket science

Yes, it means that he has the size to play on that line and provide a defensive presence while still providing faceoff ability when BB wants to play a big line of Jackman and Maroon. It doesn't mean that the guy who is 4th on the team in assists for forwards has "no offensive moves". If you've missed plays like the touch to settle the puck for Cogliano to score short handed against Boston or the multiple setup passes through the crease he's made for easy tap-in goals, again, you just aren't watching the games, at least not critically enough to appreciate who's doing the actual work to score some of the goals. Winnik is a VERY good passer.

Regardless, DSP isn't remotely the payer Winnik is at this point. It's going to be a major drop off for the team defense if he isn't re-signed.

I don't want Winnik scratched and I don't want DSP playing this season in front of him, I just don't think losing Winnik will be as big of a deal as some of you think

Beleskey is in the way of DSP's roster spot. (If DSP is capable of taking it, which I think he is next year)

That's why I'm tough on Bels. I'm worried that we will trade away parts of our promising farm system to keep hot & cold, offensively limited players like Bels...

I really think you need a more compelling argument than accusing people of not watching games when they disagree with you.

That's your prerogative. I think people who see the passes Winnik makes and yet claim he has "no offensive moves" have no rationale other than not watching the games to justify that position. It is a completely incorrect position based on the visual evidence he's supplied this year. I'm also 100% certain that saying

in that same post covered the need for a compelling argument as to the actual point at hand. It's on whoever is making the claims that don't match the evidence to come up with a more compelling argument than "no he doesn't!" To explain those passes away.

Hope he gets signed to a deal. He can be a future 3rd/4th liner for us for many years
