Saying that someone "deserved" a place doesn't impress me as a good argument. The better question is: do we see him making much of a difference here?

I doubt he will very much.

My mancrush for Panarin will probably not cease very soon. Here's a guy who has been making crazy strides non-stop for a few years now. This is what should matter. Not some old guy "deserving" a place based on something that happened in 2012.

P.S. Loving my new "sexy" Svitov avatar. I'm now glad he's on the team. Been a fan ever since he nailed Scotty Upshall with that snowball at the 2002 WJC.

My opinion based on his EHT- KHL- performance this year.

Datsyuk is practicing and reportedly in very good spirits. Would be nice if he got a game in before heading to Sochi.

Andrei Markov is pretty banged up. Wish he'd take some time off.

Just not playing as well as he did early in the season.

He's been practicing on and off since he's been out. The problem is that he hasn't taken part of any full practices. Detroit's beat reporters pretty much know from the moment practice begins that he's not going to be participating in the upcoming game. And that's been going on for nearly a month now.

"Skating on one leg" is what was quoted about him today. Maybe I'm being pessimistic, but that just doesn't sound good to me after already being out for so long.

That sucks. It has been very difficult to find information about the injury. Could you please provide a link?

All I'm seeing is Babcock's quote. Shouldn't journalists be journalin' and watching for themselves? The media can be so useless.

"Based on how they're skating it doesn't look like Datsyuk is ready."

From Khan's twitter during practice, before the Babcock quote came out.

Also worth noting that while Detroit's injured players had a individual skate yesterday (Zetterberg, Weiss, Emmerton), Datsyuk didn't participate.

Useful. Thanks.

My guess is that Datsyuk will fly to Sochi and then they will all say a prayer.

I hope he's ready. I hope he's ready sooner as a Detroit fan. It's just the longer this goes on and he doesn't really appear close the more I start to worry. And they've been really quiet in regards to what it is. Today is literally the first time they've actually said "leg" rather than lower body.

The first game after the Winter Classic Datsyuk was a "game day decision" and "day to day", yet Babcock made a comment that it didn't appear he would be ready to play anytime soon. So Babcock seemed to know more than anyone else was willing to unveil.

Knee, according to a Wings reporter on Twitter.

Some guys are just great hockey players for reasons you don't understand. Panarin falls into that category. He's a little guy, but he just keeps getting things done. Remember how great he was in the 2011 WJC? I would love to see him on the team, but I like Popov too.

If he's skating, its unlikely that its a tear of a ligament or tendon. They might need to sit him for the first couple of games in Sochi to heal him up. My guess is that he is going to make a try to play. He's in the later years of his career, and this is a once-in-a-lifetime chance to play for his country in the Olympics at home.

Kulikov is playing very well lately. Better option than Belov imo.

Contrary to the overwhelming majority of predictions, I think that is fairly evident that Nikulin and Medvedev will not be playing on the same pairing.

He pays his dues for what he did earlier. If he had a terrific season start those might got forgotten, but right now he's out.

So did Bill select Belov over Kulikov because Kulikov sucked in the past and Belov is an unknown? Seriously? At least Kulikov is a regular on the roster, while Belov is a regular scratch.

Not to mention getting big minutes. Way more reliable.

Why? Isn't he day-to-day?

Even if he doesn't play any NHL games, he will still have warm-up game against Slovenia. He will be ok.
