I was kinda hoping and believing that we would get him at a steal for some reason. Like 4.5 or something. But I dont mind this deal. Glad to have him locked up.

I posted in the other thread that I think Varly and Lehtonen are excellent comparables. They signed the exact same deals. Seems fair value to me.

Sweet deal I like it! And if I like it, that is all the matters, nothing else.

Same here, as long as Danglesnipe is happy then I'm happy.

No one on the Avs have congratulated Varlamov on twitter , it's obvious the team doesn't like him.

I always hear Dater getting dumped on here, but I think Kiszla is far worse. That guy is constantly giving some of the most idiotic opinions that I've ever seen. From that Varlamov article to the article calling for Duchene's trade to the article saying we should trade Stastny for Miller to the article where he said Jiggy should be the starter instead of Varly, just everything he spews seems so moronic. I don't see how that guy has any credibility at all, it seems like he's never watched a hockey game before.

Haha, let's see if they do on Instagram!

Kizsla is worse but he's a shock jock columnist. Dater is the beat reporter, he's supposed to adhere to facts more often.

Fair deal. I'm convinced varly will be a top 5 goalie in this league. I'm so happy to have legit longterm goaltending, something we haven't had for a decade.

Varlamov was pretty bad last year but really rebounded to an elite level this season. This is a good deal.

5.9 mil for a 25 year old stud goalie? I am so down with that.
He is athletic enough to be good until he's 35-36 so we have him for sure over his peak years. After that we can either extend him again or move on with one of the prospects.

Eh, I want Stas back on a bargain. Varly deserves his paycheck. Stas already has been paid for the next two years as far as I'm concerned.

The only way that grocery store story could have been better now is if he gave the guy a wink when he did it.

This likely means at least 2 of the 4 keepers in the minors are likely traded or not resigned. I could see them moving Pickard as part of a package for better D.

Theofanus is quite difficult to negotiate with. He has been the agent of many Russians in the past and we all could see that Bob's contract negotiations didn't go too smoothly.

I'm just happy he is locked up, and to be honest, I was expecting 5.5-6.2 and I'm pleased they locked him up for a good amount of time for an okay salary.

EDIT: Anyone listen to Mosers interview with Varly after the game?
I don't know if he meant to say it like this, but he mentioned this would've been his last year with the Avs if Roy and Allaire wouldn't have joined.

Here of course he could've been meaning the last year of his current contract and just said it wrong, but I don't know.

Given market value this is a good deal. Certainly good considering Crawford will be paid more starting next season.

Varly's deal will likely go from 7th-highest AAV to 8th once Ryan Miller signs whatever megadeal he ends up signing. Can't imagine anyone else (Hiller) will get more.

Sounded like he was just saying this was the last year on his current contract.

Yeah, but maybe he wanted to say between the lines that he doesn't sign new deal with AVS if Succo and Fat Man Lacroix are still his bosses.

Ya, Varly isn't holding back.

He added: “I don’t think I played that well the first two years (with the Avs) … Thank God the right people (joined) the team during the summer. Patrick and especially Francois Allaire. Those guys helped me a lot, changed my game. I want to say thanks to those guys and thanks to my teammates again.”

Varly is really taking the whole "being humble" thing to heart isn't he? Pretty sure I've heard him say he gets support from his dmen too. His first year here was up and down. Started the year off hot, went cold in the middle of the season, then almost got us into playoffs in the last part of the season. Last year though was rough for him. Which was weird because he did really well at the WC and in Russia during the lockout.

Not really weird considering who the avs had on D and the coaching staff.

I'm glad Roy&Sakic rate Varly as high as me. Great deal. He's been probably THE MOST important player for us this season(used to be Duchene, but at this point It's Varly..). After his drama with girlfriend was over, he's been awesome.
