it was enough for a penalty and it was knee to knee contact and it results in a player being lost for 8 weeks. intentional injury would have been heavier than 2 games. it was a penalty that caused injury, though.
the only way there is no suspension is if the league ruled that the penalty call was not correct
a foul resulted in an injury. that makes it suspendable. intent can make the suspension worse and accidental can make it less. doig does not get suspended only if the league review shows that it was in fact not a foul. that the penalty called by the referee was a mistake.
had doig been called for elbowing lindros. he would have not been suspended because it was not an elbow. it was a clean hit.
I do agree that it was a penalty, but I was not aware that a penalty that results in an injury was an automatic suspension, which is what you seem to be saying. If I am wrong and it is in the rule book then I sit corrected. Point of fact is that Dan McGillis was not suspended for a VERY similar knee on knee hit that put Kasparitis out for 8 weeks. McGillis received a game misconduct for that, nothing more. I think Doig's hit on Lindros that potentially may have ended his career played a role in the decision to suspend and that the hit last night alone was not worthy of a suspension.
Slew footing is from behind or from the side...not head on.
It shouldnt be a suspension at all. Adams...in moving to avoid the hit... put himself in a position for a knee on knee hit. Doig didnt go out of his way to go for his knee...yes he was somewhat at an angle but only to prepare for the hit. The call was made because of Adams flying through the air...and yes...it was a trip/knee..but it doesnt warrent a suspension.
These people/fans/whoever around the different boards saying Doig is a cheap shot artist and dirty player need to step back and take a look at the game film.
