As long as we have Gagner Lander won't have a chance at 2C

As long as we have Gagner, Arcobello and Gordon Lander has no chance at 2C.
Points are nice but Lander needs to mold his game into a checking forward if he wants to be an NHL regular.. The points are a bonus.

I must have missed it, but when did Arcobello get sent down? Or is it just a conditioning stint?

TBH I don't really buy this. Neither Arco or Lander can really slot into a 2C and doing so would be disastrous to the lines production. So they are 4th liners here because they also clearly don't slot in over Gordon.

But seriously in recent games the Oilers have been auditioning players like Smyth as 4th line center.

There is an available role, Arco and Lander haven't auditioned well enough in it.

I really want Lander to succeed as well. I see virtually no reason to think Arco will. He's far too limited with size and frame to be much help in 4th center tasks.

He has been a checking forward since turning pro. The points are a bonus.

Landers 7 points in 79 games makes me think that it isn't Gagner that is going to stop him from being a #2 center.

Good to see he is finally producing offensively this year though. But in his games in the big leagues this season he was a complete non factor.

Martin Marincin has one point in nineteen games. Obviously he'll never have offence at the NHL level either.

What's the correlation? Lander has spent almost every single one of those 79 games on the fourth line trying to play a simple dump-and-chase energy approach. His first season he spent quite a bit of time with luminaries such as Petrell and Hordichuk. I wonder if that's just not his jam?

Marincin is also a dman with only a quarter of Lander's # of NHL games under his belt... apples and oranges.

Lander isn't expected to put up big offensive numbers at the NHL level but he wasn't physical enough, fast enough, good enough on the dot or good enough defensively to MAKE the Oilers keep him up.

Hopefully he can still continue plugging away and improving his game and can become at least a 4th line fixture. Seems like a nice guy and I'm pulling for him but I think it's going to be an uphill struggle if he doesn't do something at an above average level.

Lander is NHL ready right now. He can play 4C or 3W no problem.
He's never had a sniff at quality line mates in the NHL, but he's playing 1C, PP, and PK reliably and quite well down in OKC. He's the team captain down there for a reason.

Do you think he can be a full time NHLer next season then?

That's good. He could be useful as a C/W utility player for us like Hendricks. Probably need to surround him with some bigger bodies.

Todd Nelson announces that Tyler Pitlick will head back to OKC tomorrow to get looked at. Suffering from a "lower body tweak". #OKCBarons

Pitlick hurt..... And Mac is our only healthy spare forward apparently.

Probably something related to his earlier knee injury.

Hope we don't have to call him up.

Really want to see him have a killer second half. Clearly the points aren't there, but, if he has a solid +/- and get 10 points the rest of the year. Not bad for a guy coming of a serious injury.

Barons are on a 5 game win streak right now.

Condors have been on a tear since being bought by the Oilers as well.

Lander scores the game winning goal with 20 seconds left in the third to get the Barons their 6th straight win. 4 points out of the last playoff spot.

What a season he's having.

Lander with 2 G 1 A so far tonight in OKC.

He's on fire. Every game it seems he's scoring.

Tough loss for OKC tonight. Came back from being down 4-2 to tie it up and get it to overtime, but then lose in the shootout.

Still in the playoff hunt though. Another huge game for Lander.

For anyone wanting to see the Barons live, there playing the Marlies on Sportsnet 360 next Sunday at 2:00 MT. It's a rare chance to see how the baby Oilers are progressing.

Probably explains today's deal

Forward in, defenceman out. Miller has been a non-factor in the AHL this year (0 points in 9 games), but is a solid ECHL scorer 31 points in 31 games with Stockton after a pretty solid NCAA career.

I dont think Pitlick has stayed even remotely healthy in any of the seasons since we've drafted him. It's a shame, but so early in your career and your body already can't hold up...
