I guess youve looked as I just did with no luck. Gretzkys career record of 50 & 10 in one season featured; Mike Bossys 80/81 season with 3; Joe Malone in 17/18; Chicago's Bill Mosienko with the fastest Hat Trick, 3 goals in 21 seconds against the Rangers in 1952.... Lemieux of course, most 4+ goals in one game over a season with 3 in 92/93.

btw the term "Hat Trick"? Started in Guelph decades ago when hat manufacturer Biltmore sponsored an OHL Junior Team, Guelph Mad Hatters from 1940/42 & 47-60. Rangers system. Won a Memorial Cup in 52, plenty of Divisional & Provincial Championships. Any player scoring 3 goals received a free hat. Harry Howell, Rod Gilbert, Jean Ratelle, Andy Bathgate, Eddie Shack (who Moonlighted selling hats out of the trunk of his car) etc all playing for the Biltmores. Alf The Undertaker Pike & Eddie Bush the clubs Coaches at various times.

I wrote this in the general hockey forum, but I'll repeat it anyway. Brian Burke holds the record for most career Brian Burke hat tricks:

1. Roll up the shirt sleeves
2. Loosen the tie and yank to the side.
3. Comb the hair with a gym bag.

Just before a press conference after a one phone call trade.

Wow, only the Rocket predates the 1960's.. making Cy the career leader for several decades.

From the top 10 goal scorers of all time Howe, Jagr, Messier and Yzerman are missing. Are they more consistent and less streaky?

If you look at top players with the highest GPG (using NHL.com) and at least 500 goals, first 8 players coincide with the first 8 on this list and Jagr is 13th, Yzerman 19th, Howe 21st and Messier 33rd so it's not really that surprising they don't have as many hattricks.

Bang on. His first came in the very first game in NHL history on December 19th, 1917 (Joe Malone scored 5 goals in the same game) and he proceeded to score all 25 in a nine year span. His final hat-trick coming on February 18th, 1926.

Richard scored his record-tying hat-trick on December 20th, 1955 and finally broke the record on October 13th, 1957.

That really is quite amazing what Denneny did. 25 hat tricks for 248 career goals is something we'll never see again I don't think. That's at least 75 goals of the 248 (I assume he had a couple 4 goal games somewhere) in 25 games.

Side Note:

Bobby Hull would go on to break Richard's record with his 27th hat-trick on Feb. 21st, 1971. So, Richard's record stood for a little over 13 years. Esposito scored his 29th hat-trick on March 24th, 1978, so Hull's record held for just over 7 years. Wayne Gretzky would score his 33rd hat-trick on January 26th, 1985 (just 12 days before Mike Bossy would score his 33rd) to break Phil's record which stood for nearly 7 years. Although neck-and-neck for three years, Mike Bossy would never jump ahead of Gretzky in all-time hat-tricks meaning no other player has been the career hat-trick leader since Gretzky broke Espo's record in 1985. In other words, he's held the record for just over 29 years. Wild.

Denneny had one 6-goal game and five 4-goal games. The 6-goal game is actually interesting as the NHL considers it a single hat-trick in the totals. I think it should count for two.

A record at the time. Anyone have any theories as to why Martin, Sittler and Dionne all had more hat tricks than Lafleur who was arguably the best forward of his generation? Or is this stat really not that big a deal?
