IMO, this is a solid deal for us. I have doubts that Cliche (even though I loved the kid as a Rangers prospect) ever becomes a player the caliber of Avery, who is young as well. Marek was never going to sign with us and the Rangers really had no interest in inking him, IMO. Ward has been really bad this year.

I was down on Cliche. He wasn't scoring well in a cake offensive league and let's face it. With Callahan stepping up huge in the AHL, Pyatt and Dupont stepping up big in the OHL and WHL, Cliche was expendable.
Avery will do it all for the Rangers, he turned his act down and started playing hockey, but now with his reputation, he gets called for EVERYTHING. He can get tripped and get called for diving and the other guy get nothing.
where is he going to find his minutes? He basically throws someone out of the lineup. He's ideally a third liner (goodbye Hossa, Hollweg, Ward or Ortmeyer - my guess is Ward sits, Hossa moves to the right of Betts and Avery to his left).
My real issue is how does he get his nearly 2 minutes of PP time? He averages 16:30 of ice time in LA - does he go to 14 as a Ranger?
