well I'm not thrilled about Cliche, but it was unreasonable to think that Avery would come for nothing.
The prospect base is deep enough, especially in 2/3 liners like cliche, to absorb his loss.
Marek was probably never coming over and Jason Ward wasn't part of this team's future, so those two are really inconsequential.
where is he going to find his minutes? He basically throws someone out of the lineup. He's ideally a third liner (goodbye Hossa, Hollweg, Ward or Ortmeyer - my guess is Ward sits, Hossa moves to the right of Betts and Avery to his left).
My real issue is how does he get his nearly 2 minutes of PP time? He averages 16:30 of ice time in LA - does he go to 14 as a Ranger?
IMO he is here to play on the 2nd line. There's not a doubt in my mind that he has the offensive potential to be a Tucker-esque player in the NHL.
He will get his shot on the 2nd line and it's a great risk to take. He's only 26 years old and has shown that he can put points on the board. I'd definitely rank him above Cullen in terms of sheer offense.

Prospect Grade: 5.0 D
The 6’3 physical forward will fill out and could develop into a very effective energy line player for the Kings. As he has barely played in his OHL career, it is difficult to gauge his level as a prospect.
He's not in their top-20.. oh well, i have no idea if they trade works out well, but its hard to see any of our prospects go.. Farewell Mr. Cliche, good luck..

seymours stats not very impressive whats the deal with this guy?
Avery should help some scoring and toughness depth and provide some energy. We got rid of some deadweight in Ward at the same time. Cliche im high on him, but we have so many prospects in his range Pyatt, Callahan, Korps, Helminen, Dubinsky, Dupont. 2 way hardworking guys with some skills that maybe it was good to get a legit NHL'er from it. We have so many assets they cant all make it.
LOVE this trade..especially if we can re-up AVERY..LOve his game and style....I don't know where Avery is gonna fit line-wise, but this team needed a HUGE shot in the arm and alot of energy, Avery will give it in the short term...Long term he would be a great 3rd liner to have....A risk becasue he could be gone in FA, but i like the chance..
And, yeah, Clich is a nice prospect, but the ceiling ain;'t that high and we have quite a few forwards in the genreal area...ANd it always seemed like Marek never wanted to come over and compete for a job...
took a while to write that post...guess Ward's not only going to sit, but he's also not on the team.
Don't know enough about Cliche, but it seemed as though many were impressed with his play in the WJCs. If he becomes a second liner, this could be a tough deal to swallow. But at least this could ensure we don't see more of Orr. A bit of toughness, and a guy who can score too - exactly what the third line was missing. A second line center and top 4 defenseman to go...

I'll be honest at this very moment I'm happy we got Sean Avery BUT not sure this is the move the team needed to make this season. To me this seems like more of a long term trade idea.
Evidence, perhaps, that rather than quick fixes and short term patch jobs, they're only pulling the trigger on deals that suit the team long term?
I like this deal, although I'm worried about whether or not Avery can keep his act together.
I don't like the trading of Cliche, but Ward and Marek were expendable for the most part. Marek probably won't come over without some big promises of $$ and playing time. But Cliche...I liked him. It's not the worst thing ever, but still...hate giving up prospects like him.
Avery does address some needs the Rangers have, though. A tough, irritating player who can score some. But isn't much more than a 3rd liner...
I'd say this was a move for toughness without losing skill, but he's not really gonna help in the fighting department
Not bad, but not the overall move the Rangers need
Avery over Prucha? You'd have a hard time convincing me that that makes much sense. He's a grinder in the Barnaby-mold. He's exactly what Betts' line is missing.
i like the deal alot. avery is still young, but at the same time, i am not sure how this helps our second line. that being said, it was really MA for Avery, so it is a good deal.
The Los Angeles Kings have traded centre Sean Avery and prospect John Seymour to the New York Rangers for right winger Jason Ward along with prospects Marc Andre Cliche and Jan Marek.
I don't know about anyone else, but why did we part with Cliche in this deal? Marek was a Zidlicky like contract negotiation away from being dealt anyway. Avery is an upgrade over Ward but WHY did Glen do this? I thought MA Cliche had a solid WJHC.
He covered his normal MO in getting a warm body in Ward (just like Lundmark last week)...
Marek does want to give the NHL a go. He is basically Jagr's replacement in the RSL. He wasn't coming to play for the Rangers, so I won't harp on him...but I have little doubt that LA won't be able to get him on a 1-way contract next training camp. So basically, a potential top 6 guy ready to play next year.
Lastly, Cliche, a prospect who can go in about 2-3 years...
I don't want to be the person that always bashes everything the Rangers do. Sean Avery unlike many agitators, has ACTUAL hockey skills. If the Rangers can get his head screwed on straight, be can be our Darcy Tucker "lite".
But I really want to see Sather included in the deal for a straight up swap for Dean Lombardi...
I think this trade also guantees that there will be naother deal or two, epsecially for a 2nd C, and it gives us more options (Betts, Hossa, Hollweg) on who we cqan include in such a deal...
