The reason Giroux puts up points is because he plays with Jagr.

Yep... and even then, he gets aaaaaaaalllll his points on the Powerplay.

And he is too slow.

And too small.

And he has better linemates than almost every other comparable offensive player in the NHL. (until it comes to individual polls... where the fans then state the players playing with their star player are better, go figure.)

So I grew up in San Jose, moved to Philly a while back. The wife is a Flyers fan. I've enjoyed my bragging rights that the Sharks haven't lost to the Flyers since 2000...

Shame the streak had to end the way it did... Sharks just have too many freaking injuries...

Honestly, I feel bad for Giroux since he seemed really disappointed he didn't get picked for the Olympics, but personally I'm happy he will get a chance to rest and not have any chance to get injured. Also I can 100% root for the US, I would've wanted Giroux to be successful too.

I think Giroux has 17 pts since 1/4. I think thats when the CAN team was announced.

Yup.

Question for possibly Appleyard, any way you can quickly tell us what Luke Schenn's +/- is with Gus in the lineup vs Meszeros. I know it's in Gus's favor...just wondering by how much. Schenn and Gus are a tandom that should not be broken up. Re-sign Gus to a nice little 4 year...1.5-2 mill contract and I will be happy.

It was announced on the 7th, but yeh, same difference in regards to points as no games on the 5th or 6th.

17 in 15 since then. (93 point pace)

Though he also has 37 in his last 30. (101 point pace)

And 48 in his last 42. (94 point pace)

An absolutely torrid pace since he got his first goal vs Edmonton.

He would be 2nd in the NHL in points had he scored at the same rate through the first 15 as the last 42 (65 points through 57 factored up from 48 in 42.)

+10 in the 25 games Gus has played.

So he is -10 in the 29 games with Mez.

(I don't think he has played with anyone else this year has he? Just did it off the games Gus has played and worked out the Mez one from that.)

Gus has a great sense of when to jump into the play, it just never seems too risky when he does it. That play where he walked the line on the Raffl goal was a thing of beauty as well. Get Niemi to move laterally and disrupt his rebound control on the initial shot. Boom, Raffl has an easy rebound goal from the slot.

Well Gus admitted to doing a lot of homework when he was benched. Seems to have helped.

Thanks...yes this is what I was looking for.

What a difference Gus makes for Schenn. Having Gus progress REALLY helps our D going forward.

If you take the first 5 games of the season out of it, Giroux's been scoring at a pace that would currently have him 5th in the league.

I feel asleep at the end of the second. Man's gotta sleep.

Woke up to the pleasant surprise they won. They dominated the second period, so I wasn't absolutely blown away they won though.

Giroux is the man.

Great effort all night long, they survived the first two periods and absolutely turned their game up in the third.

Cheers to Read for having a great night, as well as Giroux for making things happen.

Stopped watching after the first last night. Shame I missed it. Great win thought. Gotta carry the momentum into Colorado and Calgary. 2 very beatable teams on home ice before the break.

Seeing Giroux over the last month+, it's absolutely mind boggling he isn't going to Sochi. He's one of the most versatile players in the league, he's good on the PP/PK/FO, he can skate/pass/shoot.

As I said, he'll probably end the year in the Top 5 in NHL scoring. This guy wasn't good enough to play for Team Canada because he had a crappy October?

Sadly, that is probably one of the reasons he isn't going.

Three more that I am certain Hockey Canada factored in:

1) He didn't attend the orientation camp.
2) He was underwhelming at the World Championships last Spring.
3) He's not big enough; Canada didn't want too many small players, which is why St. Louis was dropped, as well.

Where is 4) Being one of the Top 5 players in Canada?

Him and Stamkos were Canadas best players at the WC I thought. They were the only two guys who showed up. (I thought Jordan Staal was good as well...)

Yzerman didn't take the reigning Art Ross winner, who happens to play for his club team. Sure it sucks for Giroux, but it's not like he's the only great player that didn't make the Canadian roster.

Eberle and Duchene were pretty good in that tournament.

He played with Streit early.
