Trading Markov would be a good idea. We would have Subban as a PMD on our first pairing and Beaulieu on our second. I know Beaulieu isnt be all end all but he can be effective with a larger role.

Its not about getting more grinders.

Clifford is a Steve Ott type of player, or a lesser Simmonds. He can play on a second or third line. Pearson, if given the chance can be a effective third liner and we get a pick out of it. It seriously makes sense, especially with the emergence of Brolieu.

We need smaller players and Ice Capades performers, instead.

Oh joy another left winger. 19 goals in the AHL..we have a few those guys already. And a 1st pick around 20th in a weak draft.

I have no idea, they didn't say anything. I would assume that Colorado would include Jamie Mcginn as there were rumors of him being traded for Rene Bourque. Maybe a first round pick included. I don't think Colorado is rebuilding as they have Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Ryan O'Reilly, Erik Johnson, Semen Varlamov all under 25.

I actually think this is the perfect time/season to trade Markov. He would be a great fit for a Stanley Cup contender and hopefully a bidding war could start.

I love Markov as a player and what he has done for this team/organization but I think we'd be better off moving him now instead of having him here for another 2-3 years.

I'm all for trading Markov.

We have to take the example of San Jose last year. They had key free agents in Murray and Clowe ( they were big part of their team) ans they traded them and they still made the playoffs.

Trading Markov in LA is a good idea. There's a lot of players i would like in LA.

Hopefully MB try to make sure the stakes are high enough to make Tyler Toffoli a must. Let's not do the whole (deal only with one team scheme when we're about to sell something.

Speaking of Toffoli - does he mostly play C or RW ? Or even LW. Not following him much since he left Ottawa.

Besides, MB can ask for a 1st of next season.

I don't really know the players involved, but if neither of them are good enough to be at least a 2nd line forward, then I'm not interested. We need players good enough to fill into our first two lines...not the last two lines. 1st pick is always nice though.

Clifford can play on the second with scorers and Pearson could potential play on the second in like a year and a half.

Side note: I would like to get Toffoli. True scorer right there.

You obviously have trouble reading or didn't read the whole thing.

I love Markov and would be happy to see him win a cup in LA, cause it won't be happening with the Habs anytime soon. Clifford, Pearson and a 1st would be a good return.

It can't hurt to field some offers anyway. The deadline can be a little crazy at times, and if there was something amazing out there, it would be interesting to hear about it.

But my default plan would be to try to sign Markov for 3 or 4 more years. Our D needs him. The Habs have to know by now what the parameters are on getting that contract signed. If Markov is just not amenable to signing at the right numbers, that makes listening to the trade offers all the more interesting.

I don't like the LA offer, though. It's a 1st in a meh draft, and a player who was picked as a 20-year old with the #30 pick, a "B" prospect, basically. I'd want the first and a more bluechip type of prospect, if it did come down to trading Markov.

So neither are solid 2nd line players? Trade doesn't look that enticing...

Make it Forbort instead of Pearson and I'd take it and run.

I'd love to see the defence with him and Tinordi.

Would prefer Deslauriers and Nolan instead of Clifford and Pearson.

So if we're so hell-bent on retaining Markov because the return isn't "good enough" and it's a "weak draft" then what do we do the day after the trade deadline when Markov says he wants a five year, $30 million contract? Say no and hope somebody else out there isn't stupid enough to give it to him? Because that NEVER happens on July 1st, right?

The ONLY leverage Bergevin has when it comes to Markov is the threat of a trade, or an actual trade. Otherwise he's relying on this ridiculous notion that Markov is going to give up millions of dollars because he's too shy to go elsewhere and will take a hometown discount to stay here.

Holding onto Markov is a dangerous game. Maybe he helps us make the playoffs, maybe even win a round or two, but it will cost us big-time financially. You may not like the return but remember this when he walks for nothing or we sign him to a ridiculous contract.

Markov for Clifford, Pearson and a first pick

I would trade Gionta and Bourque for picks / prospects.

We're still small on the top 6...

FORWARDS
Max Pacioretty - David Desharnais - Brendan Gallagher
Alex Galchenyuk - Tomas Plekanec - Daniel Briere
Kyle Clifford - Lars Eller - Brandon Prust
Travis Moen - Michael Bournival - Dale Weise
Ryan White - George Parros

DEFENSEMEN
Josh Gorges - P.K. Subban
Nathan Beaulieu - Alexei Emelin
Francis Bouillon (or Tinordi) - Douglas Murray
Davis Drewiske

GOALTENDERS
Carey Price
Peter Budaj

I have no problem trading Markov but he is a significant asset and the Habs need to maximize our return. A player of markov's ability should garner a 1st rounder + from a bottom tier team or a package of grade A prospects, lower picks and roster players.

If LA wants him, I wouldn't move off Toffoli if I was Bergevin.

If you could get a package that included a 1st for Markov, you would be an idiot not to take it. What are you people smoking? An aging dman, downside of his career ....his trade value will plummet next season... why wouldn't anyone trade that asset? Are you kidding me? Hanging onto older players is never a good thing when you are in a transition like Montreal. He has value to a contending team, you make that trade in a heartbeat.

Let's say that was to happen, just an idea with all the picks and prospects we would be getting back it wouldn't be that hard for management to trade and acquire a big forward this off season say around the draft. Lots of trades happen during that time and we would have the assets to make that deal
