Agreed, but that's not what he was brought in to be. As long as he can be adequate, Grossmann should have no problem protecting him. He's gotten more and more comfortable engaging in the offensive, which is what they need. Anymore you need four activated players to manufacture goals. Its getting tougher and tougher to just run cycle and score. Defensive systems are really tight.

Has he been awful defensively? In my opinion he hasn't really been that bad. He makes some bad turnovers at times but so does seemingly every Flyers defensemen.

His offensive game is coming around, too. That pass to Hartnell last night was great; great vision.

Without a doubt the best all around defenseman imo. Yes, he's only so-so in his own end, but you can still see the ++ offensive ability to counterbalance that.

Still don't love the player, but at least Streit is finally perform as he should have in the first year of the contract.

I like Streit. He's not bad on D at all, and he's very good with the puck. Smart veteran who will elevate his play as the season goes on.

Streit's fine. We're getting exactly the type of play we should have expected out of him. Hopefully he keeps up a comparable offensive pace through the second half, we're gonna really need that secondary scoring to stay in the hunt in our division.

Early on in the season, he was the best candidate for a healthy scratch. His zone play was awful and his turnovers were glaring. This could have been partly due to a new system.

Lately, we still see some turnovers, and he will always be out-muscled/out-hustled by stronger and more skilled players, but I have seen some good things offensively. He was brought in to be a PP anchor especially after Timonen retires, and that could happen as soon as the end of this season. I do think Timonen is far more polished in the defensive end than Streit, but Streit's offensive capability is higher, especially now. He has a better shot from the point and as someone indicated earlier, that vision offensively has been instrumental a few times this season.

His D still is pretty suspect but yeah his strength is his offense particularly with his shot. He's picked his offense up obviously which is good to see....I like how he is not as stationary when he shoots..particularly on the PP. Seems Berube also has the D being a bit more active and Streit has benefited.

B's fan here.
Couldn't find anywhere else to ask this but whats the deal with Meszaros?
I know he's an UFA and the B's are hurting on D with Seidenberg out. You guys are in playoff position so your not necessarily selling or anything but..
How is he playing? What would it cost if he were available?

Drive? I'll piggyback him.

As for cost, do you have anything Bobby Orr spat on?

hahaha. I thought this may be the response. Who knows maybe we can get him cheap and if he plays with Chara he will straighten out!

Like a 7th defenseman. A 7th rounder.

But you're right, playing with Chara could be the one thing that gets him back on track.

Beef, can you get him on that rickshaw that you built for Coburn and add Boston to the itinerary?

Pretty good take on it imo...I'd also add that, though he's certainly not a stalwart back there, I've seen him make some surprisingly good (and physical) defensive plays at times...

I've already stripped naked and chugged 4 Redbulls. I'm ready to deploy at a moment's notice, I can have him in Boston in about an hour.

I'm not sure about other people, but Streit is pretty much exactly what the Flyers got and I assume wanted.

On pace for 40 pts, provides offense with sketchy Defense.

After the way he played on the PP last night I am more comfortable with the signing. He will likely be able to replace Timonen on the powerplay after this year, and could even possibly swap PP lines with him this year.

More goals and points than Carle, and both are passive in their own end. Losing Carle was such a huge mistake

His defense would be a lot less sketchy if he got to play with Coburn and Kimmo instead of Grossmann.

He's been pretty much what I expected. He has a role, too. He just needs sheltered minutes at ES. If put in that position I think he's a useful player.

I hated the contract from the get-go.

But from what he brings to the team it looks to be much better than the LeCavalier signing.
