OT: Please help a sick child

Hey everyone, Sens fan here.

There is a seven-year old boy who is very, very sick in CHEO,(Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario). His name is Shane. His dream is to see the world and collect as many birthday cards as he can. The little guy is fighting a long, hard battle for his life.

We're trying to collect cards of any kind: Valentine's, greeting, Christmas, Birthday, homemade or store-bought, for Shane. His birthday is May 30th, and it doesn't look so good.

The local news station here, A-Channel Ottawa, will be bringing me the week of my 19th birthday, on February 22nd at 2 pm, to meet Shane and deliever anything that I recieve in his name. He is a very, very shy little boy and deserves to get all the love the world can give.

I want to get some cards from not only all over Canada, but the world.

Please help this little guy out. It's so sad.

My friend created a website with both his information, what the radio station has said about this, as well as my mailing information.

http://www.cardsforshane.tk

I just found out last night that he speaks and reads French and doesn't understand English (which 99% of my cards are in), so I'm hoping you Habs fans can please help me get a smile on this little guy's face and help inspire him to keep up his battle.

Thanks.

The kid lives in Lancaster,Ontario, just down the road from yours truly. I don't know him but I know the story. I sent mine last week. Every local store/business has either a card to sign or a drop off box for those too lazy to get a stamp.

Send one this weekend or I'm coming to your house and putting you in a headlock until you comply. How often is it this easy to make someone happy ?

Aw, thank you so much If you see him, send my regards. I don't think he knows how big this has gotten in Ottawa yet.

I feel so bad for the little guy. They show a little bit more of his story every night on either CJOH or A-Channel and my heart just breaks. No one should have to go through such pain, especially such a young little boy. It's not fair.

I don't know him, my wife used to have a business in the village of Lancaster, and knew his Mother, just in passing. He's certainly well known now as all of the media have picked up his cause. The Cornwall paper had a picture of him surrounded by cards, and CJOH mentions him frequently.

No, it's not fair. Not at all. Every parent gets annoyed and frustrated with their kids at times, myself included. You get reminded of how lucky you are sometimes though.

I just found out about this yesterday...My friend died of Leukimia about a year ago, which is what I was told this kid has. I'll be sending him cards and tell my friends to as well. Are you 100% sure that he only speaks french? I find it sort of odd that he doesn't speak english with a name like Shane.

I hope the best for this kid and his family, I can't imagine how hard it is for his parents and himself to go through this.

I posted the message on an immigration board. It supports a large francophone following which are in the process of immigrating to Canada (a lot are already here, of course!)

I translated the original message and the web site message to the best of my ability (its 1h30 am and I'm a bit tired... so there could be 1 or 2 mistakes!).

Merci!

Well here's your chance! KISS FM wants you to know about Shane, a soon to be 8 year old - battling Leukemia at CHEO (Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario). You can join Shane's battle with a simple Birthday Card. It may seem like an overly-simplistic gesture, but to Shane, it would mean the world.

Shane has alays wanted to travel the world and now KISS FM are attempting to bring parts of the world to him. So where ever you are in the world, please spread a bit of cheer and join in the world record attempt, and most importantly brighten the day for Shane.

We're trying to collect cards of any kind: Valentine's, greeting, Christmas, Birthday, homemade or store-bought, it doesn't matter as long as it's a card!

Name: Shane
Age: 7
Diagnosis: A.L.L. Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia
Likes: all sports, building things, video games
Dislikes: being in the hospital for long periods of time
Favorite thing in the whole world: Lego

At almost 5 years old Shane was diagnosed with A.L.L. After 1 month into the treatment he was in early remission, meaning there were no cancer cells in his blood. Shane's family was very pleased with the early results, but his protocol called for 130 weeks of treatment. Then on July 6th, 2006 Shane relapsed after completing 108 of the 130 weeks. It was a shock to everyone including his doctors. Shane may have to undergo a bone marrow transplant down the road, but the good thing is that his brother Jacob is a match. Presently, there is no sign of cancer in Shane's system since relapsing.

There are cards coming in from Russia, Sweden, Spain, Singapore, Japan, and the United States, but we can do better. I want to get a smile on this little boy's face by bringing the world to him on February 22nd. Chances are if you've found this site you've been directed here by Lydia or one of her various supporters in this cause. If you want to send a card, they can be sent to Lydia below and she will, along with KISS FM, help deliever them to Shane.

Alors, voici votre chance!

this all sounds like a practical joke to me. There's probably some healthy kid at the other end getting inundated with spam.

How can you think something like that? There is so much easier ways to spam someone than doing all this story.

Sorry, I wouldn't make a joke out of a child with cancer.

Why would I think that? Because it has happened multiple times in the past.

I, honestly, never heard of the prank before until I helped start off this campaign for Shane. There have been a few people doubting it, but if you need proof check out the media links I posted in a reply above you.

edit: if for some reason someone is still unconvinced, I can PM the e-mail and phone number of one of the reporters dealing with the case.
