But you can say that about everyone though.

Jagr in Washington.

Barnaby from Tampa.

etc. etc.

If he doesn't work out you trade him in the offseason. Believe me, they'll be takers.

Isn't he a UFA after this season?

I'm betting that he's still a locker room cancer. I'm definitely unhappy about this trade.
Now, why are you betting this when every report says otherwise?

Avery is a RFA who will require some decent coin in the off season, maybe that's a reason....

EDGE - We are in total agreement on AVERY...I love what he is goingto bring to this team, no matter what line...And I don't give Cliche or what's his name a second thought...

Avery is eligible for group III FA status in 2008

everyone agrees we need grit.. he brings it..

everyone agrees we need scoring from 3rd/4th liners.. he can be that..

everyone agrees that if Hollweg could pot some goals he'd be very valuable, with his hitting, etc....in my mind thats what Avery is and could bring to this team..

everyone agrees we dont want older vets clogging up the team.. we got Avery who at 26 is not old..

we gave up Cliche, but he is 2 or 3 years away from making an impact.. you got to give to get..

yes, we need a 2nd Line C and a solid D-man, but this is not a huge power move, its a side move that does make the team better.. just don't ask too much from him like we asked from Cullen, use him in his spot, don't ask him to be a 1st line winger (like some lines i saw earlier..)

this is not just a move for this season, definitely not the key for a playoff push (which i don't think will even happen)... he plays with passion and EVERYONE hates to play against him.. now he's our agitator.. he may not work out, and he may be just what we need.. lets wait and see.

The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Avery said one reason he wanted to be here was his relationship with Shanahan. "I have a connection with him, we played together in Detroit... In L.A, the Rangers game would be the game that we would watch before our game. I'm excited to play with Shanny and Jags is the best player in the world. I think this team can really do a lot of damage if Jags and Straks can really get going. I don't think there's a better place to play in the league, especially if you win."
Seems like he is happy to be a blueshirt

To be honest I don't watch many Kings games--in fact practically none--so I'm not exactly sure what we're getting--however much as I came to like Barnaby--apart from always sticking up for his teammates and taking on all comers--his physical (hitting) game wasn't all that good--this is where an agitating player such as a Tucker gets under the other teams skin--Hollweg is another example but the offense hasn't come around at all and this has marginalized him (at least for now)--4th line and playing with guys like Orr. A guy that makes other teams keep their heads up and can throw in some points besides might be a very welcome addition to what is a fairly anemic physical team like this years version of the Rangers. Here's hoping anyway that he provides that and that his buddy Shanny keeps him from having a bad effect inside the locker room.

We're going to need an "Official: Fans of Rangers opponents to ***** about Avery" thread.

I'm optimistic about Avery. If he's not chirping to the media, or doing push ups on the ice, I'll be glad to have him aboard. Hopefully the Rangers can be a fresh start, and a chance for him to clean up his act.

Regardless of stats. That's why I mentioned Girardi, and then here we are.
Why would you even mention Girardi? Girardi was actually GOOD in juniors.

This Seymour guy is a 4th liner in the OHL. You know how many 4th line OHL players who aren't enforcers make the NHL? I would guess probably NONE.

Girardi was a very good junior player who was overlooked and people thought he wouldn't be a good pro. Seymour is an awful junior player who people overlook because he is awful.

Burnside on ESPN weighs in on the trade saying that what the rangers gave up was basically equal to two giacomin hockey cards...

What do real hockey fans think of Cliche?

Cliche is known as "a member of the Canadian WJC Team" up here with both TSN and Sportsnet. He's widely regarded as the center of the package that went to LA.

Although, people tend to see him more as a 3rd liner than a 2nd liner.

I don't trust much that comes from ESPN.

Just a FYI Sam seems to think that Avery wants to already resign here before even playing a game :
Quote:
Indeed, when it comes to joining the Rangers, Avery sounded delighted, already indicating that he wants to re-sign once the season is over. Perhaps he’ll decide otherwise once he’s actually played here.

“This is where I wanted to go. If I was leaving, this was the spot. It was pretty exciting this morning even putting on the practice jersey,” he said. “I wanted to play in a big market but New Yorkers are a little more passionate about their sports. And Madison Square Garden is center stage as far as I’m concerned. If you can play anywhere, that’s the place.”

Two way winger, hard worker. Has good offensive instincts, needs to get physically more mature and round out his game with experience. Very solid skater.

Maybe a second line RW, most likely a solid third line RW if he makes.

I think the development of a guy like Callahan made the Rangers a little more willing to move him.

Man, this guy is getting me all excited. He's someone that gets you up from your seats and he's saying all the right things. If he's as passionate as he says he is, I can see him giving 110% because he's proud to be a Ranger.
