Basically it says the little underacheiving baby wants out again.

Chicago is interested and are trying to hammer out this deal with Gainey.

Adrian Aucoin
Bryan Smolinski
for
Samsonov
Craig Rivet

P.S. Be gentle, I am no way a Habs fan.
Looks good on him for signing with Bruins bitter rival,I hope he rots at home!!!!!!!!

I wasn't comparing the player types or styles, I was just pointing out that their point production was very close. I know Mike Johnson and what he is capable of as he played with the coyotes for several seasons. The point I'am trying to make is that he might not have been a good fit with montreal. Sometimes these things happen.
Johnson with the coyotes was more of a scorer and had better point production than he has on the habs, this is just my point about Sammy. It isn't a strech to think that he might do a hell of alot better with a different team.

let me educate you a little on the Habs.

1) Rivet is already gone, he will not be signed.
2) The addition of Aucoin would eliminate the chance of signing our 2 main guys
3) Aucoin is not a good replacement for either one.

If you look at posts from the trade deadline last year you will read some great stuff from Bruins fans about the greatness of Samsonov.

At 3.5 for next season, really?

If he were to clear, and then be promptly placed on re-entry waivers then MAYBE at 1.75 for next season.

Amazing to think they traded for both Samsonov AND Niinimaa.
Oof.

We just cleared a good amount of cap space.

I wouldn't take him. Maybe for 1.75, but 3.5 for Samsonov is a joke. Actuallly, no, it's an outrage. Outrageous.

Watching the Oilers in the playoffs last year as a neutral fan it was clear Samsonov was in the bottom 3 of Oiler forwards he was usually invisible, so I dont have a clue about what your saying

Except that Samsonov was signed as a UFA. And you won't find many Hab fans defending either transaction for that matter.

Gainey made a bad signing and a bad trade. Although Ribeiro had to go, I would have rather had a draft pick come back, we needed a body on D (in the case of Niinimaa).

In the case of Samsonov, he was plan C...it's common knowledge that Gainey went after Elias and then Shanahan before settling on Samsonov. He was stuck with Kovalev for far too long, and wasn't even given a shot with Koivu, which I think Carbonneau should have tried at the very least before benching him. Yes he has 1 goal in his last 21 games but since he scored that goal, he's been a much better player. Except he hasn't put up any numbers.

I'm sure Gainey offered Samsonov around, didn't like what he might have received in return (Aucoin perhaps?) and elected to place him on waivers to clear his salary of the books.

Sammy was a good player UNTIL he hurt his wrist, he was never the same after that. His stick handling was his gift, with a bum wrist, thats gone. hes to small which increases his injuries. I always liked sammy but i think he lost alot when he hurt his wrist

I think this may be at least PART of the problem. But he can still stick handle. I think his wrist injury has limited his shooting more than anything. He just will not shoot the puck.

Flyers will have the first crack at him of re-entry

A line of Gagne-Forsberg-Samsonov would look great next season, espeically Samsonov @ 1.75 million...

Recall the context there. If it's done because the guy just flat sucks, there won't be repercussions. As a "oh, we need to save cap space - SEND SOMEONE DOWN!" move or if the guy is dumped because he's only got 45 points and the team expected he should have 75 but is otherwise playing fine, it will damage goodwill.

Here, not only has Samsonov has asked out, but he's also playing like crap and has all season long. Keeping him around is just going to hurt the team. Other players know there's an expectation of performance - the question here is, are the expectations of the Canadiens too high? If other players perceive the Habs expectations as being too unrealistic, then it will cause problems - but if the guy is just stinking up the place, there's no excuse and there won't be problems when it comes to going after UFA's the next offseason.

Samsonov was a UFA. And I think Niinimaa was the only thing anyone offered for Ribeiro.

Funny how people can post about hockey on a message board and be in a time warp

Calgary scores more than the team putting him on waivers and are the 8th highest scoring team in the league...we don't need him or his contract.
