And not to give into the whole bias thing we've been through recently but to be fair, the omission of Fetisov, Tretiak and Makarov while Fedorov is the highest ranking Russian and there are only 2 others in the entire list in Mogilny and Bure...yeah, you'll have to excuse me if I don't give this list a whole lot of respect heh
a pretty hilarious list. markus naslund at 90, no bryan trottier. i'm guessing they just forgot about him being that bossy is #14 and potvin is #23, but still...

even in the context of recent players, ciccarelli and andreychuk over modano, savard, and goulet. also ciccarelli and andreychuk over robitaille, who was the same kind of player in the same era, and neither the stats nor the eye test come close to making that defensible.

but pavel bure > chris chelios i can get behind, hehe.

i did a little googling and apparently the list was compiled by barry melrose, ray ferraro, and darren pang on hockey2night. list seems to date from '04.

but anyway, the real reason i came to this thread is to say i just took a cursory look at the centers list so far and while i have a few minor quibbles about guys maybe being ahead of or behind other guys within 5 spots of them, overall it looks pretty right to me. nice job guys.

Slightly off-topic, but I assume you guys are going to do a wingers ranking next year?

I don't really have anything to contribute to these but they're fun to follow.

I'm calling Nedomansky "Czech/Slovak," since I don't think the OP of this project is the place to get into a contentious debate over which one to classify him as.

Why not CSSR, his nation while he was playing?

I also thought of that, but then would someone complain that I'm using "Russia" instead of "USSR" for players like that?

I was going through the HOH Top 40 Goalies thread and saw something that peaked My interest, the survey. I think that it would be cool to do something similar with this project.

He's referring to the survey we did after the end of the project: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh....php?t=1341017

I can't remember if we've discussed it yet behind the scenes, but I think the intention was to do this kind of survey after the centers and wingers projects.

I didn't do the goalies project and missed that and yes that would be a good idea IMO as I'm a huge advocate for transparency and the process.

Not meant to be anti-Jacques Lemaire but just to show the facts.Question why is Guy Lafleurs plus minus so much higher than Jacques Lemaire since many of you believe he was a terrific 2 way player.I mean Brian Trottier and Bobby Clarke are pretty equal or better than Lafleur-just asking

+/- is not the most reliable stat. Too much noise. It doesn't account for strength of on-ice competition, quality of your defensemen and goalie, etc.

Yeah, unlike Lafleur, Lemaire played on those poor teams

Although I don't really know how big conclusions one can make from their respective plus/minus, they did play on the same team, and even on the same line in the late 1970s. Steve Shutt has better +/- than Lemaire too.

Good chance that when their line lost possession of the puck in the offensive zone, Lafluer & Shutt were headed to the bench, leaving the ever defensively responsible Lemaire to stay out longer.

Great list. I can definitely live with this one. To bad Marcel Dionne doesn't get a higher ranking though. Is it time HOH Top 60 D-men ranking? That one should be interesting :-)

All the discussion for defense and goalies are linked in the other sticked thread. You can read them if you have A LOT of time on your hands.

over the next couple of weeks. We release them 2-3 at a time, so they doesn't take over the board.
